Spend an incredible night in the Refuge du Montenvers, sitting on the edge of the Mer de Glace, high in the Chamonix Alps. Watch the sun go down over the majestic glacier, followed by a three course dinner and some star gazing. Enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast in the morning before venturing to the ice caves or exploring the footpaths before the crowds appear.
This can be done if you are staying at the Hotels Alpina or Prieure in Chamonix. You'll need to call to book this. There's a supplement but you do not check out of your Chamonix hotel room, just take what you need for your overnight experience.
In order to reach the refuge guests must take the Montenvers Railway (ticket included) to to the top station. A backpack with a change of clothes and overnight essentials is recommended plus good walking shoes if you plan to walk part of the way.
This is a unique and iconic place at 1,903 metres. When the last train has departed on the rack railway to Chamonix, you can enjoy the tranquillity and spectacular views of the Mer de Glace and the Drus and Grandes Jorasses.
