Tour Itinerary

Puglia, the 'heel' of Italy's boot, is an unspoilt region of olive groves and whitewashed villages that has been overlooked by mass tourism for some time, but is now starting to attract wholly deserved attention. Most famous for its trulli, strange conical roofed houses, Puglia also has magnificent baroque architecture and a beautiful coastline.

Day 1: Fly to Bari and transfer to your hotel before meeting your fellow travellers and tour manager for a welcome drink.

Day 2: This is a day to really soak up the atmosphere of Puglia, with a visit to the whitewashed town of Ostuni followed by a drive through the countryside to taste some of the fine local wines of the region and see the centuries old tradition of olive oil making, for which Puglia is famous. A light lunch is included.

Day 3: A day dedicated to the nearby towns of the Valle d'Itria, famous for their conical trulli: Martina Franca, Alberobello and Locorotondo.

Day 4: Enjoy a day at leisure to relax in your hotel or explore the nearby towns.

Day 5: Today is a full day spent in the region of Basilicata and visit the fascinating town of Matera. The Sassi are cave dwellings dating back to prehistoric times but inhabited until quite recently and now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 6: A full day's excursion to visit the charming seaside town of Otranto with its Norman cathedral. You’ll also enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful little city of Lecce, famous for its flamboyant, baroque architecture.

Day 7: Another day at leisure to relax and unwind and enjoy the hotel's facilities.

Day 8: Transfer to the airport for your return flight.

Central Puglia

The centre of this large region is characterised by the fertile Murgia plateau which forms a gently rolling landscape dotted with olive groves. Many of our hotels are located in or near the Itria Valley which is famous for the strange trulli houses and picturesque whitewashed villages. This area is also a great destination for those in search of a relaxing beach holiday, as the superb coastlines of both the Adriatic and the Ionian seas with fine sandy beaches are only a short drive away. Make sure you take the time to visit a masseria where you can taste the extra virgin olive oil and locally made wines.
