Holidays in France

The French Alps are cosmopolitan, buzzing with life but also charming, and holidays in France give you a chance to get off the beaten track at the quieter resorts or throw yourself into iconic walks. Exciting Alpine activities and a vibrant social scene will greet you in resorts like Chamonix and Morzine. Step into the Void from the Aiguille du Midi mountain platform or leave the world behind with remote hikes from La Clusaz. With a fantastic network of cable cars, gondolas and funiculars, exploring some of the famous slopes of the ski scene is as easy or hard as you want it to be.

The trails around Mont Blanc, Chamonix, Lake Annecy and Morzine are just begging to be explored whether you’re a serious hiker or looking for gentle trails with the family.

Spend a day hiking to the Mer de Glace - the largest glacier in France or follow the path of the French Resistance into Switzerland. Alternatively, soak up the silence as you explore stunning trails above the pure waters of Lake Annecy or spend your days pottering the lakeside with friends.

You’ll find gentler pursuits on Lake Annecy and Lac de Montriond in Morzine where you can unwind with paddleboards, pedalos, or have a go at wakeboarding. Or go high octane with paragliding, and the Via Ferrata! And for cyclists, test your bike skills on one of the Tour de France stages at Annecy or at the Morzine Bike Park with 650km of trails. 

It wouldn’t be a holiday in France without superb cuisine and this region serves up some of the best dishes in the country. Before a day out at La Clusaz, visit the weekly market and stock up on Savoy ham and Sapinette liqueur or tuck into a Savoyarde Fondue (think local white wine, cheese, garlic, Kirsch) or Tartiflette as your lunch at one of the mountain huts.

Glide in the air surrounded by the gorgeous mountains and see the Chamonix Valley from above. Seeing Mont Blanc from the Brevent mountain range, these are views you won't forget. You'll be in a tandem flight so your professional paragliding pilot will guide you in the air.

There's a flat cycle path around Lake Annecy and this scenic ride follows the outline of the lake with fantastic views across glistening water and towards pretty villages, castles and mountain peaks. The path also goes along to Albertville on an old rail track.

The area of Morzine is known for its cycling with the Tour de France often passing through the town. Its mountainous surroundings make for some challenging climbs and exhilarating descents. Road cycling is very popular in this area and it's one of the Alps' leading destinations for mountain biking.

Morzine has a great range of sports events during summer. We've listed a few of our favourites below. Please be aware dates are subject to change and should be checked in advance, tickets might also be required and may need to be booked and paid for in advance:

The Passportes du Soleil - is usually held at the end of June and marks the beginning of some of the lifts opening and is a great event showcasing the bike trails in the area.

Tour de France Morzine - watch the worlds most famous road race, Morzine is known for its challenging mountain climbs so you can watch the racers be put to the test.

L'Etape Morzine - If you love the Tour de France then you might also love the L'Etape Morzine, its a chance for non-professional cyclists to experience the same section of course as the professionals, if you're not looking to sign up then spectating is just as much fun, the town has a great atmosphere at this time of year and it's exciting to be a part of the experience.
