Located in the beautiful Italian Alps, the Hotel Lac Salin Spa & Mountain Resort is perfectly geared up for cyclists, walkers and those of you wanting to relax in natural surroundings. It's the perfect retreat if you love action and relaxation. Named after the saltwater lake on Monte Livigno, the hotel focusses on embracing nature in everything they do- from the local produce used in their cooking to the herb-scented spa and wood panelled rooms. Every room has a balcony, so you can even enjoy nature from the comfort of your own room.

The staff do everything they can to help you get a feel for the region, with their free-guided walks and e-biking tours. They're very friendly and passionate about the area and are the best people to ask if you have any questions or need any local tips. It's easy to find something new to do every day, whether it's yoga, hiking, swimming or even torch-lit hikes! After a day of exploring, we love winding down in the spa's relaxation room. It's the best place to rest your mind and body.

Superior Sun Rooms are 28m² and sleep up to four people (the extra bed is a double sofa bed). They are bright and modern and have traditional Valtellina woven carpets. They have a minibar, balcony with deckchairs, TV, safe, bath or shower and hairdryer.

Superior Rooms for Sole Use are also 28m² and have a balcony (from 6-19 Aug - only available on request).

Deluxe Rooms are more spacious at 35m² and sleep up to four people. These rooms are available on request, please call to book.

Located in a valley close to the Swiss boarder it's the perfect place to head if you want to spend your holiday reconnecting with nature - you'll be surrounded by mountains, lakes, forests and panoramic views.

What to see on a Livigno holiday

In the Summer there's plenty of opportunity for hiking and adrenaline filled mountain biking. The Forcola pass links Italy to Switzerland - which means you can cross the boarder and explore trails over there too. You can go paddle boarding on Livigno Lake or even test your agility at one of Livigno's adventure parks. What we love to do is morning yoga on the mountain, surrounded by stunning views of the valley. It's the best way to find your inner zen! If wildlife is your thing, then look out for the Ibex and Wild Eagles.

The food here isn't typically Italian, instead it's based on the flavours and cooking styles found in the valley. You'll get to try delicious local mountain dishes which are usually made from rich meats, and local cheeses - these dishes are bound to set you up for an action packed day exploring the mountains.

Lace up those boots

Livigno and the surrounding Stelvio National Park provide the most stunning backdrop for long walks and hikes. Whether you're a hard-core hiker or just want to stroll around and take in the view, you'll find trails for all levels.

 

Connect with nature

The Stelvio National park is a nature lovers paradise. It's actually the largest protected area in Europe, created to preserve the natural environment for generations to come. Made up of mountain ranges, glacial lakes, waterfalls, woodland, meadows and historical villages, it's a fantastic place to explore. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like deer, ibex, foxes and marmoys and don't forget to look up... you may be lucky enough to spot a bearded vulture or golden eagle. We love looking out for tracks and footprints to see which animals have been around. If it's plants that you're interested in, you'll want to look out for the glacial buttercups which grow high up on the mountain. 

 

Fun for the family

Livigno is full of adventure parks, which make a great family day out. You should visit Larix Park, a high ropes and adventure centre in the middle of the Larch Forest. It has nine different adventure routes, with something to suit all ages. You could also try Aquagrandia activity centre which has a swimming pool, slides, children's entertainment, a spa and a gym. The whole family will be happy! 

 

Mottolino Bike Park

If you love downhill and free ride mountain biking, or you want to give it a go, then you have to go to Mottolino Bike Park. It was specially built for riders looking to improve technique, learn new tricks and try out different jumps. If you're looking for more of a challenge you can practise your jump technique with the inflatable landing or try the downhill biking tracks.

 

Food and Drink

Try Bitto, a cheese typical of the Valtellina region. It is a semi-hard cheese which can be aged for between 40 days and three years. Enjoy the cheese with a few slices of Bresaola della Valtellina (dried Italian salt-beef) and some local Valtellina wine.

If you want something heartier to eat, Manfrigole is a filling dish made with buckweat pancakes stuffed with Bresaola and Casera cheese.

Set yourself up for the day ahead with a good breakfast. You'll get a continental breakfast, with croissants, bread, jam, fruit, yoghurt and hot options like eggs.

For dinner you'll have a four-course meal starting with an antipasto buffet. You'll then get a choice of main, and to finish it off, a choice of local cheese and a pudding buffet. The ingredients used are all fresh and local and the food is traditional but with a modern twist. 

If you're a wine lover, you have to check out the hotel's wine cellar, La Cantina,  which has over 450 kinds of Italian and international wine. You must try a wine from the Valtellina Valley while you're there!
