The Ashbee started out as a villa designed by the English architect Charles Robert Ashbee in 1907. These days it’s a luxurious hotel. You can still feel the fusion between English and Sicilian style when you step through its doors – it’s a perfect choice for that special break. You’re immediately greeted with amazing views, down through the terraced gardens and out onto the Strait of Messina. At the end of the garden there’s an infinity pool – we love finding a shady spot out here and just soaking up the scenery with a drink from the bar.

The location’s superb. It is walking distance to Corso Umberto and the main shopping area, cafés and restaurants. But when you’ve got the St George by Heinz Beck, the one Michelin star restaurant, right here at the hotel, you won’t have to venture far for incredible food. Chef Delfo Schiaffino focusses on using fresh Sicilian produce, cooked to perfection. It's hard to beat the setting too - in the summer dinner's served outside on the terrace (weather permitting) with amazing views.

Transfer time: approx. 1 hour by private car from Catania airport.

It's easy to understand why Taormina is one of Sicily's most popular resorts. It's position on the edge of the island means you get incredible views over the sea towards Mount Etna. Spend your days strolling through the historic streets, grabbing a coffee on a sea-view terrace or heading down for a day at the beach in Taormina Mare.

What to see on a holiday to Taormina

There's a lot of history to unpack here. The Greek Theatre is the town's most-known attraction - it also has some of the best Mount Etna views so bring your camera along. If you time your visit with the Taormina Film Festival you can even take in a show here. Just walking through the town is a great way to take in the sights. Head down Corso Umberto for the shops and restaurants, or take the cable car down to Taormina Mare and spend some time on Isola Bella.
