Sample Bergen city break itinerary

  • Start your day exploring Bryggen, Bergen's colourful UNESCO-listed waterfront. Wander the narrow wooden alleyways, browse independent shops and galleries, then stop by the Bryggen Museum to discover the city's Hanseatic trading history.
  • In the afternoon, hop aboard the Fløibanen Funicular and head up Mount Fløyen. Take in panoramic views across the city, mountains and fjords before stretching your legs on one of the peaceful winter walking trails. Afterwards, head back into the city to browse Bergen's lively streets, where twinkling lights add to the atmosphere during the festive season.
  • As evening arrives, settle into one of Bergen's welcoming restaurants and sample traditional Norwegian dishes, from warming fish soup to fresh cod or locally sourced reindeer – the perfect way to round off your first day in the city.
  • Set off on a half-day fjord cruise and experience Norway's spectacular winter scenery from the water. Sail past snow-covered mountains, frozen waterfalls and peaceful fjord villages while taking in some of the country's most iconic landscapes.
  • Back on land, ride the Ulriken Cable Car to the summit of Bergen's highest mountain. Soak up sweeping views across the city and surrounding fjords before warming up with lunch or a hot chocolate in the mountaintop restaurant.
  • Spend your final evening enjoying Bergen at a slower pace with dinner in the city centre. If the skies are clear and conditions are right, head to a darker spot just outside the city for the chance to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights before continuing your journey to the slopes.
