Ski holidays in Obergurgl

Huge choice of top-quality hotels in one of Austria's highest resorts

Surrounded by glorious mountain peaks and glaciers, Obergurgl & Hochgurgl nestle at the end of the Ötz Valley and are guaranteed good snow conditions from November to May. Well known for its top quality hotels and modern, queue-free lift system, it has always been one of Inghams’ most popular resorts. We have been bringing guests here since 1935 and our many repeat guests enjoy the fact that this compact resort is still small enough to meet up with friends on the slopes, at the favorite Nederhütte mountain hut or down in the village.

Obergurgl sees a recent addition of a lovely mountain hut called Schönwieshütte set in a peaceful location at 2,266 meters above sea level at the entrance to the Rotmoostal valley. In addition to the 10-person Kirchenkarbahn gondola that opened in 2015,  the 10-person Kirchenkarbahn II gondola is opening for the 2018/19 season – it climbs to 2,839m, to a couple of newly-created pistes. Nightlife and non-ski activities are mainly centred around the hotels, but also include a weekly ski-show, night skiing and tobogganing.

6 days lift passes are also valid in the Sölden ski area. Sölden has 145km of high-altitude skiing just a short ski bus ride away - which is included on your lift pass. There are 2 glaciers also, and three peaks of over 3,000m from which you will get some stunning views.

Beginners Skiing in Obergurgl

There are now two beginners areas, one in the village centre near the Rosskar lift and one at the bottom end of the village near the Festkogel lift. The Obergurgl ski school has an excellent reputation and all its instructors speak English. Bobos Miniclub will keep your little ones occupied with plenty of fun in the snow.

Intermediates Skiing in Obergurgl

The whole area, the Rosskar, Hohe Mut or Festkogl (Obergurgl) to the Wurmkogl (Hochgurgl) has an extensive choice for skiers who like long, spacious blue and red runs. Blue runs 5 and 6 are good runs for low intermediates, and red run 7 and the runs by the Plattach chairlift in Obergurgl are good for better intermediates.

Advanced Skiing in Obergurgl

There are some challenging black runs and good moguls on the unprepared ski routes or book a guide to explore the deep powder off-piste skiing on the Hohe Mut in Obergurgl. A day trip over to the glacier in Sölden is well worth it.

Snowboarding Obergurgl

Pistes are generally suitable for snowboarding with a selection of jumps on the Festkogl area.

Our favourite run

'Pistes from top of the Wurmkogel lift in Hochgurgl. Relaxing cruisy blue runs, with the treat at the top – the two Wurmkogel lifts take you the Top Mountain Star, a mountain restaurant and look-out point with one of the most glorious views, looking south across the Italian border to the rose-coloured crags of the Dolomites. Simply sensational on a clear day. From there, you can ski down all the way to Untergurgl, so it's a lovely long, scenic run.' (Neil Lodge, Product Manager Austria)
