Skiing and snowboarding in Sölden

Sölden is totally unique as a ski area, with three mountains over 3,000 metres and two glaciers - Retttenbach and Tiefenbach, ensuring superb snow conditions and reliability. The 'BIG 3 Rally' loop takes you to all of the 3,000m plus peaks on a 50km circuit in a day that will take you to some viewpoints you will be sure to remember. Skiing is almost exclusively above the tree line with 144 km of world–class skiing and snowboarding for all ability levels, easily accessible by the efficient lift system. 

The lift pass also covers a further 110km of wide open, cruising runs in the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area - just jump on the ski bus and spend a day or two exploring this area.

Where to stay in Sölden

Down in the village, traditional Tyrolean-style buildings stretch along the valley. We offer 3 hotels in Sölden, all with access to some great facilities including a spa area with sauna and steam rooms, bar area and central location. All hotels are available on a half board basis with breakfast and dinner included with your stay.

Bars and restaurants in Sölden

With more than 30 mountain huts and restaurants in the Sölden ski area, you'll have plenty of options to choose from. Most of what is on offer around resort is Tyrolean specialities, but you'll also find other cuisines throughout the village. Be sure to visit ‘Ice Q’. Perched on top of the Gaislachkogl peak, recognisable by its glass façade and steel towers, and used as a location in the James Bond film ‘Spectre’.

If you have never skied in Austria before, than you won't have experienced some of the worlds best après ski. Sölden is a lively resort, with pubs, cocktail lounges and bars available both in resort and on the mountain. Stop by a mountain hut for an après ski beer mid run, or spend the evening socialising with friends over dinner and drinks - whatever the vibe, Sölden has it all.

Riders In Hotel Solden Pool

The relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the Riders In encompasses all that Sölden is famous for. Traditional Austrian style bedrooms, bar and restaurant are paired with a modern wellness area and indoor pool. Just 100 metres to the village centre, you are not far from the action and the hotel has its own bar which is a great meeting point.

Beginner skiing and snowboarding in Sölden

There are two beginners areas. One near the Innerwald area between the two main gondolas, and the other at the top of the Giggijoch gondola - just a short walk from our hotels. There is a good variety of blue runs accessible from the Giggijoch which are perfect for improving and mastering turns.

Ski and snowboard schools in Sölden

Sölden's ski schools offer a range of lessons for everyone, including children and adults both beginners and advanced. Bobos Miniclub has dedicated areas to teach children and also offers activities which will keep the smaller ones occupied with plenty of fun in the snow.

Intermediate skiing and snowboarding in Sölden

Sölden is famous for its wide open and perfectly groomed slopes. The modern lifts and array of pistes connect the area superbly. Follow the 'Golden Gate to the Glacier' where you can ski from the village up to the glaciers at 3,250m. The 'BIG 3 Rally' is an absolute must. Follow the signposts around a 50km circuit of the three highest peaks in the area, and see the stunning views from the viewing platforms at the top. There are good freeriding opportunities off the Giggijoch area for intermediates.

Advanced skiing and snowboarding in Sölden

There are some challenging red runs, and 27km of black slopes in the ski area also. Freeriders have an abundance of choice, the top of the Gaislachkogl offers some of the steepest and longest terrain in the area.

Off piste and snow parks

The are good options for off piste all over the mountain, the Gaislachkogl has superb freeriding options and the two glacier areas are also very popular. The massive 6-hectare 'Area 47 Snowpark Sölden' is located above the Giggijoch gondola and has a huge choice of jumps, rails and obstacles to try out or improve on. Or if that's not your thing, just grab a beer and a deckchair and watch the experts do theirs.

Cross country skiing in Sölden

Sölden offers a very varied terrain when it comes to cross country skiing, and has tracks to impress both skaters and classic cross-country skiers. The tracks are located at the rear of Ötztal, and offers around 143 kilometres of well groomed cross-county trails. From resort, you can easily access the cross-county ski centre using the public bus which is free of charge!

Things to do in Sölden

Restaurants, food and drink 

There are a huge selection of mountain restaurants, ski huts and umbrella bars for you to try. Whether you'd like a sophisticated restaurant for your evening meal, a self-serve lunch stop to refuel, or a lively après bar for some after ski drinks, there are plenty of fantastic options across the whole of resort.

Falcon market restaurant is a good pit stop for some mid-ski food. Stay close to the slopes and fuel up on a variety of dishes. 

For a fine dining experience, we'd recommend heading to Ice Q, a restaurant located at 3,048 metres. This restaurant is so fine, that the glass cube featured as a filming location for the James Bond movie "Spectre". The restaurant offers great views as well as haute cuisine, fine wine and tapas. So, if you'd like to live out your secret agent dreams whilst also eating some good food, this is the place to be.

Après, bars, clubs and nightlife

Sölden is a lively resort with a buzzing après scene. 

The Vue Skybar allows you to drink the night away with a perfect view of the stars. This sophisticated cocktail bar is a great choice if you'd like to experience a classy evening with a martini in hand.

The Black & Orange Rockbar opened in the early 2000s and is still a firm favourite. This pub has the cult of the Harley Davidson at it's foreground, with the interior influenced and designed by rock enthusiasts. Playing some great music, this pub is known for serving the largest range of spirits in Sölden.

Spas and relaxation 

For some relaxation and water fun, we'd recommend taking a trip to Freizeit Leisure Arena. This sports centre features a large leisure area with indoor heated swimming pool, a large spa area with extensive wellness facilities including sauna, steam room and inhalation bath, a tennis hall and a bowling alley. Perfect for adults and children a like, there is plenty to do here to keep everyone entertained. There is also an onsite restaurant where you can enjoy pizza, pasta and steaks. 

Shopping

Sölden's shopping scene does not disappoint. The lively streets of the village centre are made up of a variety of shops, be it sports equipment, which is tried and tested immediately, and cutting-edge fashion or souvenirs and regional delicacies - shopping in Sölden is a true winter sports discipline.

Sölden resort activities

Ice-skating

You can't beat ice-skating amongst the alpine scenery. Sölden's ice rink is located at the sports field, just 5 walking minutes from the base station of Gaislachkogl mountain gondola. In the evening, the ice rink also features atmospheric lighting for some added fun. If you have a competitive streak, they also offer curling and ice hockey equipment.

Tobogganing

Want a break from skiing but still chase that exhilarating rush down the mountain? Tobogganing is the answer. The toboggan run leads down from the middle station Gaislachlogl and is 7 kilometres long. You can race your way down more than once, so it's an excellent choice to get the whole family involved. 

Winter Hiking

Sölden has a huge range of winter trails for you to choose from. You can set the pace and choose a route based on your preference and fitness level. With over 49 kilometres of trails to explore, all signposted and leading through the snow-covered forests, it is definitely an activity we recommend.

Snow shoeing 

Snow shoeing if a fantastic way to explore the mountains and see some areas even the skiers cannot go. Trudge through the untouched snowy landscape with a guide and take in some of the best scenery Sölden has to offer. What makes this even better is that there is no age limit so it is a perfect activity for families.

Group ski lessons need a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked lessons and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private lessons to the value of the lessons you had originally booked.

Levels of tuition:

  • Beginner = never skied before
  • Level 1 = advanced beginner; can control speed, snowplough and change direction on gentle slopes 
  • Level 2 = low intermediate, snowplough turns and start to ski parallel
  • Level 3 = Good intermediate, Parallel turns 
  • Advanced = Fully confident on all slopes, looking to improve technique
