Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn provides one of Europe’s most exciting ski circuses. The attractive villages may be only four kilometres apart (Saalbach is the larger resort of the two with a charming centre with stylish shops and cafés) but they form a vast Skicircus in the picturesque Glemm valley.

Skiing and snowboarding in Saalbach

As for the skiing – it’s really excellent. With 270km of pistes and 70 lifts this valley is an intermediates' dream. But there’s plenty of excellent off-piste available too. And don’t miss the long, flowing run down to neighbouring Leogang – often overlooked by visiting skiers. It’s a wonderful long north-facing run all the way down to Leogang. With perhaps a quick pit stop at the rustic Kraller Alm chalet.

Where to stay in Saalbach

Saalbach is the larger of the two Saalbach-Hinterglemm resorts and has a compact centre with everything you need within a short walk. We offer a range of 4-5 star hotels all located within a short walk of the ski area and ski lifts. Many of our properties include spa and wellness facilities with your stay.

Beginners

Saalbach and Hinterglemm’s nursery slope is right in the village centre. The local ski school is highly regarded, with friendly, English speaking instructors. Plus access the interconnected region of Zell am See & the City Xpress gondola which allows access to the best snow conditions and wonderful views.

Progress to the mountain from the nursery slope is easy. Gondolas from the village centre to the top of the mountain makes getting around the resort simple & the short blue runs at the top of the Bernkogel are excellent for building up confidence.

Intermediates

At the Saalbach/Hinterglemm Skicircus including Fieberbrunn, Bernkogel, Kohlmais & Reiterkogel find a wealth of long runs including reds and blues which are ideal for relaxed cruising or simply travelling as far as possible across the mountain.

The terrain at the top of Reiterkogel provides an excellent mixture of delightful blue and red runs and is a great place to spend the morning skiing. From here you can ski down to Pulvermacherscherm which connects with Fieberbrunn, the latest resort to join the Skicircus.

Plus access Zell am See where intermediates will enjoy the wide open runs on the Sonnenalm; alternatively take the Hirschkogel lift over to the Areit side and enjoy the Schüttabfahrt down to Schüttdorf.

Advanced

The Schattberg in Saalbach offers a good selections of mogul runs and off piste skiing. Alternatively expert skiers will enjoy the challenging ‘Nordabfahrt’.

In Hinterglemm the Zwölferkogel provides the biggest challenge to advanced skiers. Take the world cup black descent which is challenging and free of crowds. The nearby Seekar bowl provides excellent opportunities, as well as the Schattberg North Descent in Saalbach which is a long and challenging mixture of black and red runs.

The area now connects to Zell am See where you can head over to Sonnenalm for some off-piste and moguls or take one of the black runs down to the village.

Alpin Card

The Alpin Card covers three regions on one pass, giving you access to 408km of premium slopes and 121 lifts. Alongside the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, you also get access to the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun and Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See.

Accessing Zell am See's Ski Area

From 2019 a new modern lift included on the Alpin Card has connected the 270km ski area of Saalbach & Hinterglemm to the 138km ski area of Zell am See, including access to Zell am See’s 32km of black runs.

To access this area ski down to the Zell connection lift and take the zellamsee Xpress gondola up Schmittenhöhe mountain. On return ski down to the middle station, then either take the prepared ski route to the bottom or take the section zellamsee Xpress gondola. Once at the bottom it is a short 5 minute bus which runs every 20 minutes back to Saalbach.

Snowboarding, Freestyle & Terrain Parks

Saalbach is known for some of the best boarding terrain including three fun parks, as well as plenty of easy blues and reds and an abudance of off piste.

While Hinterglemm is one of the best resorts for freestyle skiers and snowboarders. The floodlit nightpark is open day and night and is suitable, for everyone, whether a complete beginner or an expert.

The park is extensive offering a range of obstacles including the standard kickers and rails as well as a wall ride and a U-bahn gondola lift provides ready access to the park.

There are further freeride parks in Fieberbrunn and Leogang, as well as a dedicated learn to ride park in Bernkogel.

In Zell am See boarders will enjoy the new fun park on the Schmitten, as well as the blues and reds on the Sonnenalm.

You can also enjoy winter walking paths throughout Zell am See, Saalbach & Hinterglemm
