Where do the Royals ski

Guide Ski Royal Ski Resorts

The royal snow down: Top ski destinations of the worlds royals - If you're struggling for ski destination inspiration, take a look at where the some of the worlds royal families, especially the British royal family, spend their skiing holidays.

The British royals love to hit the slopes - none more so than King Charles and for good reason—skiing is one of the most exhilarating and fun ways to spend a few days. Whether it's a getaway to Switzerland or the Italian Alps, members of the royal family have enjoyed the snowy slopes for decades.

Where to ski like a King

You don’t have to be royalty to enjoy upmarket ski destinations that attract future kings and queens. We take a look at the most regal ski resorts, where both scenery and guests are majestic.

Klosters, Switzerland

The quiet and traditional resort of Klosters is one of King Charles’ favourite ski destinations. He has visited with such regularity that the resort have named, not one, but two chair lifts after him. It was in Klosters that the world first learnt that William was dating Kate Middleton, as the pair were photographed kissing on the slopes in 2004.

Other high profile visitors to Klosters include the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, and the King and Queen of Sweden. Visitors to this world-class ski resort should take the opportunity to visit Davos along the scenic railway, which is included on the lift pass.

Courchevel, France

The destination for Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s first ever ski holiday. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their young family skiing for the first time back in spring 2016.

This sophisticated resort is a firm favourite not just for members of the British Royal family but also Saudi royalty and the King of Morocco. We imagine it is the phenomenal skiing, charming and lively village atmosphere, and designer boutiques that make this prestigious resort such a popular choice for royalty.

Lech, Austria

The picturesque village of Lech was one of Princess Diana’s favourite ski resorts. She was an annual visitor, and it was the destination for Princes William and Harry’s first ever ski trip. It’s not hard to see what makes Lech so appealing – beautiful, snow-sure scenery and an extensive ski area offering 304km of piste.

Among other distinguished guests are the King and Queen of Jordan. The exclusive, Austrian village is also the traditional ski destination for the Dutch royal family, who have visited Lech every year since the 1940s.

St Moritz, Switzerland

Since its first winter sports tournament in 1864, St. Moritz has been attracting royalty and celebrities. Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot and Alfred Hitchcock have all visited the Swiss ski resort.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex often visit St. Moritz with their children, while the Dutch, Monaco and Swedish royal families also opt for this glitzy resort in the Swiss Alps.

St. Moritz is known for its exclusivity, and the good news is that you can experience it without breaking the bank.
