Things to do in Norway on a ski holiday
Best activities on a Norway ski holiday
Snowy peaks, whisper-quiet forests, fjord views and “fresh-powder” - Norway gives you more than great turns on the psites.
Whether you’re a first-timer learning to wedge, a piste-craving intermediate, a powder-hungry advanced ripper, or someone who loves winter off the skis, Norway serves up adventures by the bucketload and not just on the slopes!
Husky sledding
One of Norway’s most magical activities, learn to “mush” your own sled and glide through forests and across frozen lakes behind a team of eager huskies.
It’s hands-on, hugely fun and a memory you’ll still be talking about back home. Perfect as an afternoon or day-time excursion that works around your ski time.
Northern Lights
Head for a northern ski resort for your holiday or simply spend a clear evening in the right spot and you might catch the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) - the breath-taking natural lightshow that makes winter nights unforgettable.
There are lots of ways to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights other than taking the chance of standing outside your accommodation - try night skiing, or an evening snowshoe walk.
Activities on the ice
Snowmobile safaris that blast you across tundra and through valleys; night tobogganing under the stars or ice-karting is brilliant for families and groups looking for a little competition.
These shorter, action-packed experiences are brilliant filler days when we are having a rest day from your skis.
Fjord experiences
In Norway, a fjord can be within easy reach - winter cruises and epic viewpoints shouldn’t be missed. Enjoy a fjord cruise or train trip and you’ll understand why Norway’s landscapes are the real star of any holiday.
Family-friendly fun
Norway is wonderfully family friendly: childcare and kids’ ski areas are common, and off-slope adventures like reindeer encounters, short sledging runs and gentle snowshoe routes are brilliant for little legs and big imaginations.
Time to relax
Give yourself some time to unwind and enjoy all the Norway has to offer. Warm up in a sauna or soak in the hot-tub at the nearest spa and wellness centre (likely in your hotel), eat slow-cooked local fare (reindeer, fish, wild berries) - all part of the traditional cuisine of Norway or just sit back, drink in hand by the fireplace and watch the dusk creep over the mountains.
Of course – skiing
Norway’s resorts are famous for long seasons, reliable snow and uncrowded pistes – ideal for avid skiers and snowboarders. There’s terrain to suit every ability — and plenty of groomed runs for cruisy mornings and steeper lines for when you’re feeling bold.
If you prefer cross-country skiing and gliding across silent tracks, then Norway offers trails in abundance. The trails are easy to access from many resorts and make a brilliant half-day escape for families and explorers.
If you want excellent snow, quieter slopes and adventures beyond the pistes, Norway is superb.
