Beginners skiing in Val Thorens

Val Thorens is ideal for learning to ski or board with a good ski school and wide gentle runs by the resort centre. Rond Point des Pistes is a great place to start with magic carpet and gentle greens, there is the opportunity to progress onto a longer green at the toop of the 2 Lacs charilift. Once you have progressed head up the Cascades chairlift where you can find some easy blues. It is also a great choice if you're looking to get back into skiing or boarding.

The fun slopes have a space theme, head down a slalom under arches and between mascots, pass through snow-covered tunnels, or even opt for a challenge down a mogul field. It is a great way to build confidence while practising new skills.

Intermediates skiing in Val Thorens

Val Thorens is an intermediate’s paradise with endless options across the Three Valleys, and being the largest interlinked ski area, it is easy to get between each resort or ski area. The Péclet sector is a great place to ease yourself back into skiing or boarding. Further afield Point de la Masse is a wonderful south facing ski area and also one of the highest points in Les Menuires, where you can find plenty of long runs coming down from the summit.

Advanced skiing in Val Thorens

Skiers and boarders are spoiled for choice with access to three different glaciers.  The Caron Sector offers you incredible panoramic views while you carve down the steep Combe de Caron run, its incredible when there's been fresh snowfall but can test you when its a mogul field. La Combe de Rosaël is an ungroomed black run which goes down into Orelle, the so called fourth valley, it's a steep and demanding black with a descent of 1100m. The Orelle area is perfect if you have more experience on the slopes and want a quiet day on the slopes.

Freestyle and freeride in Val Thorens

For the more adventurous skier or boarder, there are plenty of snow parks dotted around the Three Valleys. In Val Thorens you can head up the Moutière chairlift to access the Plateaux Pistes, where you can find different graded courses, with a variety of bends, rails, kickers and a boardercross.

Meribel and Courchevel also have their own snow parks with a variety of jumps, rails, boxes and airbags.

For the off piste enthusiasts Lac du Lou has some of the best off piste skiing in the area. We would recommend hiring a guide to show you the best hidden spots in the resort though.

FAQ and Travel Information

We feature resorts with the best snow records across Europe and Canada. Many are at a very high altitude, some have glacier skiing and we even have resorts close to the Arctic Circle ensuring there is always snow in sight. Some of our top snow-sure resorts would include Tignes/Val d'Isere, Cervinia, Ischgl, Zermatt, Les Arcs and Val Thorens.

Zermatt offers an impressive high altitude of 3,820m, making it a top destination for decent March snow conditions.

With a high altitude of 3,200m, Val Thorens provides snowy pistes well into March and beyond.

A high altitude of 2,730m, Banff is certainly worth considering for some March skiing.

Cervinia is one of the slightly lower of altitude of just over 2000m but the great thing is it's access - slopes connecting to Zermatt, nearby glaciers.
