Beginners skiing in Cervinia
Cervinia is one of Italy’s top resorts for beginners, thanks to its wide, gentle slopes and excellent ski schools. Start on the village nursery slopes, where a baby lift gives easy access to smooth, quiet runs ideal for learning the basics. The area is sheltered and gets plenty of sun, making early lessons more enjoyable.
Once you're turning with confidence, progress to the Cretaz chairlifts, which serve a selection of mellow blues just above the resort. After a few days, you’ll head up to Plan Maison (2,550m), where a network of wide, forgiving pistes offers the perfect next step. Blue 5, a scenic run back to the village, is long and easy – a great goal for new skiers.
Intermediates skiing in Cervinia
Cervinia is perfect for intermediate skiers who enjoy long, relaxed descents and panoramic views. Most of the terrain is high and open, with a great choice of red and blue runs across the mountain. The 10km red from Plateau Rosa to Plan Maison is a highlight—smooth, scenic and never too steep.
For more adventurous intermediates, the 22km descent from Plateau Rosa all the way to Valtournenche is one of the longest pistes in the Alps. It’s a full-day adventure that offers incredible views, wide-open runs, and plenty of great mountain huts to stop for lunch or a hot chocolate.
Advanced skiing in Cervinia
Advanced skiers may find Cervinia’s local runs relatively tame, but the terrain opens up significantly with an international lift pass. Head over to Zermatt, where steeper slopes, challenging black runs and off-piste routes provide more of a test. The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise area in particular has varied terrain and excellent snow conditions.
On the Italian side, a few steeper pistes such as the Nera di Cervinia black run offer short but enjoyable challenges. For more advanced thrills, guided off-piste or heli-skiing trips can be arranged locally.
Snowboarding in Cervinia
Cervinia is a snowboarder-friendly resort with wide, cruisy pistes and very few draglifts—ideal for beginners and freestyle riders alike. The terrain is mostly open and forgiving, making it easy to progress your skills across the mountain.
The Indian Park at Plan Maison (2,800m) is one of Europe’s highest snowparks, and features lines for all levels, including kickers, boxes and rails. There’s also a boardercross course and separate zones for novice and experienced riders. Consistent snow and easy access make Cervinia a great base for snowboarders.
Cross-country skiing in Cervinia
Cervinia has a small but scenic offering for cross-country skiers. A 3km trail runs near the golf course at the entrance to the resort, ideal for a gentle ski with Matterhorn views. It’s best suited to beginners or those looking for a short, peaceful outing.
For more extensive routes, head to Valtournenche, where a longer and more varied circuit winds through the woods and open meadows. Equipment hire is available locally, and the area is usually well maintained throughout the season.

Some of our top snow-sure resorts would include Tignes/Val d'Isere, Cervinia, Ischgl, Zermatt, Les Arcs and Val Thorens.
Zermatt offers an impressive high altitude of 3,820m, making it a top destination for decent March snow conditions.
With a high altitude of 3,200m, Val Thorens provides snowy pistes well into March and beyond.
A high altitude of 2,730m, Banff is certainly worth considering for some March skiing.
Cervinia is one of the slightly lower of altitude of just over 2000m but the great thing is it's access - slopes connecting to Zermatt, nearby glaciers.
