Westendorf

Westendorf is a pretty village in the Kitzbuhel Alps with a lively and welcoming atmosphere. It has retained its own unique charm and traditions, yet you are close enough to major tourism in Kitzbühel to still experience hustle and bustle. As part of the ‘Entente Florale Europe’ Westendorf was awarded the gold medal as Europe’s most beautiful village in bloom.

Adrenaline junkies will be at home with excellent paragliding conditions and mountain bike trails. Those wanting to experience the breath-taking mountain scenery at a slower pace can take advantage of the many available hikes. For a piece of everyday life visit the farmers market held once a week during the summer months.

Things to do in Westendorf

Summer in Westendorf has many events. Lots of brilliant events and a weekly programme mean a holiday in the Kitzbüheler Alpen is something quite special indeed. Make the most of the opportunity to enjoy local traditions. Weekly brass band concerts start in early June.

Family fun

The Alpinolino Westendorf, the Alpine Explorer Park on the adventure terrain of the Talkaser (1,770 m) in Westendorf, is all about fun and adventure for different ages. The Alpinolino kids’ festival, open to all children from 4 to 12 years of age, is an especially cool event held each Monday in July and August from 10.30 am to 2 pm. The variety-packed programme of children's events provides fun and games during a holiday in Tirol. In the summer months, there is an action-packed programme on offer through the tourist office for action-hungry children and families, every day of the week.

Herrenchiemsee from £40 per person (full day)

Journey via the romantic village of Reit im Winkl to the Chiemsee, known as the “Bavarian Sea”. The Chiemsee is the largest lake in Bavaria. The biggest of several islands on the lake and accessible only by boat is Herrenchiemsee. The name derives from a sumptuous and wildly extravagant palace built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Marvel at the richly decorated interior and the stunning grounds all modeled on the Palace of Versailles. A fascinating insight into the world of a truly eccentric King.

Berchtesgaden, Germany (full day)

Cross the border into Germany and visit this beautiful Bavarian town with optional excursions to salt-mines and the spectacular Eagles Nest, Hitler’s famous hilltop retreat, where you can enjoy lunch with incredible panoramic views.
