Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

Hotel Du Lac et Du Parc has some of the best gardens on the whole of Lake Garda. When you walk out of the main building you’re transported to a peaceful park with paths winding around the pools and tall trees providing shade. It leads all the way down to the lakefront. As you can imagine, there’s plenty of places to sit back and relax with a book – either by one of the two pools, on a secluded bench under a tree or next to the lake.

The hotel caters well for almost everybody. Families are more than welcome here and there’s a dedicated children’s pool for little ones to splash about in plus a playground and mini club. If you like staying active on holiday, you’ll love the tennis courts and water sports centre where you can organise surfing, kayaking and sailing (all are payable locally). Don’t forget to try out some of the walking and cycling trails around Riva, too. For the days when you need to relax, there’s the spa – we love chilling in the indoor pool and enjoying the views of the garden.

The hotel’s location is good – it’s about one and a half kilometres from the centre of Riva so it’ll take around 15 minutes to reach on foot. There’s plenty to do in the town. One of our favourite things is grabbing a coffee in a lakeside a café and watching the windsurfers on the lake.

Riva

Make sure you pack your sense of adventure for a holiday in Riva del Garda. This is Lake Garda’s most northern town and there’s mountains all around for thrilling cycling and walking routes. When you need to slow things down a bit you can stroll along the lake promenade or take a seat in the historic piazza. It’s pedestrianised and has a slight Austrian feel – you’ll find apple strudel and schnitzel on the menu in some cafés. The old town is lovely to walk around – think cobbled streets and flower-filled terraces. There’s lots of bars, shops and restaurants so it has an energetic atmosphere during the summer.

What to see on a Riva holiday

Some of the best hiking and cycling trails start from Riva – Strada del Ponale is our favourite and you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the town and lake. For a more unique viewpoint, try some mountain climbing. Riva’s probably best known for its water sports and it’s not uncommon to see windsurfing competitions taking place throughout the summer. You can try it yourself while you’re there as well as sailing and scuba diving. We love the beaches here too. Large white pebbles spill into the clear lake and it’s almost impossible to resist a dip.

Things to Do

Things to see and do

There’s lots to see and do in Riva. We love the town’s historic, pebbled square. You can spend a few hours in the boutiques picking up some souvenirs or just grab a table outside and order a drink while you enjoy the atmosphere. Dive deeper into Riva’s history by visiting the Museo Alto Garda. It’s in an ancient medieval castle and has exhibits dedicated to archaeology, paintings and life around Lake Garda in the past. It’s great for little ones too with lots of hands-on experiences. Plus, you get some of the best views of the lake from the tower.

It’s easy to explore from Riva, too. Ferries will run to nearby towns like Malcesine and Limone. If you want to escape the crowds for a while, we can recommend going to Lake Ledro. It’s just half an hour away by bus and the waters there are some of the best for swimming.

Activities

Riva caters well for walkers of all abilities. There’s something so relaxing about taking lakeside walks here – they’re nice and flat and you can walk for miles. The walk to nearby Torbole is particularly nice and you stop there for lunch before walking back. You need to head higher for some of the best scenery though. Strada del Ponale is our favourite trail for bird’s eye views of the town and lake.

The north of Lake Garda has some of the best cycling trails in Europe. Challenge yourself with the steep routes down Monte Altissimo that has the famous ex-Seicentouno. It’s not for the faint-hearted! There’s plenty of less scary options too. They involve gentle rides along the lake and heading up hills for beautiful views.

Windsurfing is very popular in Riva and you can normally see it taking place from the piazza. Get involved and try it for yourself, there’s plenty of places locally to book lessons or rent equipment. If you’d rather relax then sit yourself down on the white pebble beach. It’s a popular spot for swimmers and sun bathing.
