Hotel Lo Scioattolo has a fab location in the centre of Gressoney and fantastic views of the Aosta Valley. As soon as you arrive, the team will make you feel at home. They really go all out to make sure everyone’s holiday is special. There’s an Alpine feel throughout the hotel with loads of traditional touches. We love chilling out by the open fire after a day on the mountain.

The lifts are pretty close to the hotel but there’s a free shuttle so you won’t have to worry about getting there. After building up an appetite all day, dinners at the hotel are something to look forward to. The restaurant serves fantastic Italian food and there are plenty of local wines to go with your meal. Once you’re full up, head to the bar for a nightcap. There’s also a wellness centre so try and leave some time to relax in the whirlpool, sauna and Turkish bath.

Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 45 mins from Turin airport.

Gressoney

Nestled in the centre of the Monterosa ski area, one of the largest and unspoilt ski areas in Italy, you will find the beautiful resort of Gressoney. If you are looking for a traditional village with cobbled streets, full of history dating to World War 2 and a ski area known for good challenging pistes, massive off-piste potential and 28 peaks over 4000 metres, this is where you want to be.

Dubbed by many as Europe’s best kept secret, the Monterosa ski area is simply stunning. The pistes are immaculate, probably something to do with the fact they are not overcrowded and majority of the people who do head here are at a good level of skiing. Around Gressoney you can enjoy some woodland skiing before heading further afield either towards Colle Bettaforca and over the peak towards Champoluc, the largest of the 7 towns in the area. More experienced skiers and boarders will love the slopes over towards Alagna, specifically those looking for powder can head up the Punta Indren lift which takes enthusiasts to an area dedicated to off-piste. We recommend a guide and ensuring you have the right equipment for the job.

Gressoney is split into two areas - Staffal and La Trinité - each with its own centre and village life. There’s excellent cross-country skiing in both villages, with more than 20 miles of tracks. Après in Gressoney is low key but you will find some lovely bars and cafes to enjoy a drink after a great day out on the mountain.

For a smoother in resort experience, we recommend pre-booking the following before you travel; lift passes, ski equipment and/or tuition.
