Discover Ortisei

Ortisei, the picturesque old community and cultural centre of Val Gardena, can all too easily be overlooked by skiers based in Selva, especially those intent on ticking off as many resorts as they can on the celebrated Sellaronda tour. But they’re missing out on an intriguing and delightful location, packed with fascinating architecture, often with ornate woodcarvings, as well as pretty churches, a charming pedestrian precinct, high-quality shops and good restaurants. 

Ortisei’s main ski area is at Alpe di Siusi, a wonderfully scenic area with a good network of lifts in the Punta d’Oro area, serving early intermediates. There are also gondola and funicular links with the Seceda area which itself links with St Christina and onwards to the extensive Selva lift network which includes Dantercepies, Ciampinoi, Plan De Gralba and Passo Sella. From Selva you also have access to the renowned Sella Ronda ski circuit, a 27km route around the incredible Gruppo Sella massif.

Things to do in Ortisei

Tobogganing is fun for the whole family, and the 4.9 kilometre run at the top of the Rasciesa funicular in Ortisei won't disappoint. Head to the top and enjoy whizzing down the run to the mid-station where you can take the cable car back to the top and repeat the run.  Alternatively head over to Alpe d'Suisi where you can find four wonderful toboggan runs set against the magnificent Dolomite backdrop. 

Toboggans can be hired and returned at the valley station, and in the huts in Alpe d'Suisi. A valid lift pass is required to use the funiculars and cable cars.

There's more than 140 kilometres of well-prepared cross-country ski runs in the Val Gardena.  Traverse through the snow-covered forests, pastures and enjoy the stunning alpine scenery surrounding you. The Vallunga area is the ideal spot for novices and experts alike, there's a range of trails varying from one to ten kilometres - the Vullunga is about a twenty minute walk from the centre of resort.  You can glide through Europe's highest alpine pasture on the extensive trails around Alpe di Siusi, with 80 kilometres of trails you wont be short of areas to explore - there's also plenty of photo opportunities in the area, with Sassolungo mountain overlooking the area.

Explore the tranquil landscapes of Val Gardena by snowshoe. The terrain is varied, with routes winding through forests, across open pastures and over gentle streams, leading to rewarding panoramic views of the valley. Scenic trails can be found below the Odle peaks, starting from the top of the Col Raiser lift, as well as on the Resciesa plateau. Another beautiful route begins in Monte Pana and continues up towards Monte Seura in the St. Cristina area.
