Visiting a local Sami reindeer farm gives you an evocative picture of the traditional Sami lifestyle, in which reindeer play a central part. You will hear great stories from the Sami hosts and learn the secret of suopunkki (Sami lasso), along with many reindeer facts and their fondness for mushrooms. There is one variety, akin to the infamous 'magic mushroom', that can turn a reindeer into 'hullo poro', which is Finnish for 'crazy reindeer'.
Ride in a reindeer sleigh through the snowy fells and forests, which feels as if you have entered the secret world of Narnia through a magic wardrobe. At least until your reindeer decides to pause for a snack on some tasty lichen under the snow... some do have a stubborn streak.

The clever, moody lighting of the snow, ice-sculptures and wall-carvings, and the way the lights glow through the solid ice 'furniture', creates a mystical feel to the Lainio SnowHotel.
Each winter it takes over 27,000 cubic metres of snow, chunks of river-ice up to a metre thick and weighing up to 3 tonnes, and a team of 50 people working flat out for 350 hours, to create its impressive 4,500 square metres. Beautiful carvings decorate the rooms, courtyards, ice bar, restaurant and Ice Chapel.

Sami Museum & Inari Village
Surviving in an untamed land in the challenging Arctic Circle climate has shaped the fascinating history and culture of the indigenous Sami people across the entire north of Scandinavia. Many of these ancient Sami traditions, with reindeer farming always being at their heart, remain a way of life today.
A unique Sami Museum at the Inari village on the shores of a sacred lake is a fascinating excursion from Saariselkä. You will learn about how the Sami have so successfully survived for generations, their hunting skills and their rich traditional culture.

Aurora Cabin Overnight Stay
We have two separate sites of Aurora Cabins, in both Levi and Saariselkä. These sites have very little light pollution which provides a perfect location to spot the breath-taking Northern Lights. A magical way to experience the wintry star-filled sky and dancing Northern Lights, with the laser-heated glass roof located directly above the King size bed, giving you a perfect view of the night sky.

Husky Safaris: Times and distances are approximate and may vary due to weather conditions. Husky Safari child age 4-12yrs. Children 0-3yrs free (transport must be pre-booked) but are not allowed on 10km Husky Safari.
Reindeer Safaris: Times and distances are approximate and may vary due to weather conditions. Reindeer Safari child age 4-12yrs. Children 0-3yrs free (transport must be pre-booked).
Snowmobile Safaris: Times and distances are approximate and may vary due to weather conditions. Snowmobile Safari child age 4-12yrs. Children 0-3yrs free (transport must be pre-booked) but are not allowed on any Snowmobile safaris. Snowmobile drivers must be 18yrs and bring a full, photographic driver's licence with them. Single riders who have purchased a sharing snowmobile may need to upgrade locally to a single driving snowmobile, if a sharing snowmobile is not available.
Travel insurance is a condition of booking with us, and you should ensure that your chosen policy covers the activities that you plan to take part in during your holiday. Your policy should provide cover for your own personal and medical expenses, however individual policies will not cover damage to snowmobiles or skidoos and a compulsory excess will be payable directly to the supplier of the snowmobile/skidoo excursion.
Horse-riding Safaris: Available in Levi and Yllas only. Suitable for beginners. Advanced riders will have their own group. Children under 12 yrs must be experienced.
Santa Excursions: Please do not book both the Santa's Elves Hideaway and Santa Park.
*For Saariselka this will be a group meeting with only Inghams guests, this will be around 30 minutes in Santa's home.
