About Akas Alp Apartments

Imagine waking up in the heart of the unspoilt, traditional Lappish village of Äkäslompolo, surrounded by serene landscapes and fresh Arctic air. The highly recommended Äkäs Alp Apartments put you right in this peaceful setting, offering the perfect base for your ski holiday.

Step out of your apartment and you’re just minutes from the centre of the village, with a handful of local shops, restaurants and a well-stocked supermarket all within easy walking distance. After a morning of skiing, return to your cosy apartment, where a fully equipped kitchenette lets you whip up a meal just the way you like it – or simply relax and let your senses take in the tranquillity.

For a touch of indulgence, stroll over to the nearby Äkäs Hotel (just 100 metres away) and dive into the indoor pool, or warm up and unwind in your own private sauna – pure bliss after a day on the slopes. You can even upgrade to half board at the hotel, so you can enjoy delicious meals without lifting a finger, leaving you free to focus on the stunning scenery and exciting ski adventures that await.

All facilities are located in the Äkäs Hotel.

Guests staying on a self-catering basis

Conveniently located in the centre of Äkäslompolo, the apartments are within walking distance of the local supermarket. All apartments are equipped with a small kitchenette, giving you the option to dine in or check out the local restaurants in the village. 

Guests staying on a half board or bed and breakfast basis

Meals are served at the Äkäs Hotel, located around 100 metres from the apartments.

Each morning, you can enjoy a buffet-style breakfast in the Äkäs Hotel restaurant, offering a range of hot and cold options. Typically including breads, pastries, cheeses, waffles, and porridge.

After a day of activities, a three-course buffet dinner is served in the cosy restaurant, featuring Lappish specialities and locally sourced ingredients.

If you prefer, you can choose to dine from the à la carte menu instead of the buffet, with an optional credit of approximately €10 per adult and €5 per child. Please inform the hotel reception by 6pm the evening before if you wish to use this option.

Please note: The special New Year’s Eve Dinner, featuring a festive menu, is only included for guests staying on a half board basis.

One-bedroom apartments are around 42m² and sleep two to four people. The apartments have one twin bedroom and a double sofa bed (160cm) in the lounge. They also have a fireplace (firewood included). 

One-bedroom alcove apartments are around 38m² and sleep two to four people. The apartments have a separate sleeping alcove (open to the living area) with twin beds and a sofa bed in the lounge. 

Two-bedroom apartments are around 56m² and sleep two to six people. The apartments have two twin bedrooms and a double sofa bed (160cm) in the lounge. They also have a fireplace (firewood included). 

Please note that the sofa beds are best suited to one adult or two children.

Discover Ylläs

Ylläs ticks all the boxes for the ultimate ski adventure in Finland. Named after the Yllästunturi fell, the resort features cosy, comfortable accommodation in two main areas: Äkäslompolo to the north and Ylläsjärvi to the south, so you are within easy reach of the arctic ski slopes.

Known for its excellent snow conditions, reliable snowfall throughout the winter, and scenic surroundings, skiing in Ylläs is not to be missed.  With over 50 kilometres of slopes, there are pistes for skiers of all levels, from gentle beginner slopes to challenging runs for advanced skiers and snowboarders, making it the perfect spot for your next family ski holiday.

The season begins in late November when a small number of slopes open, with early skiing often taking place under floodlights during the magical polar night. From mid-February, as daylight returns, the full mountain opens up, offering varied terrain for all levels and spectacular views across the fells. With minimal lift queues and unspoiled surroundings, Ylläs offers a relaxed and authentic Lapland skiing experience.

The resort is also renowned for its long, well-groomed cross-country trails, which wind through frosty forests, past frozen lakes and over the snow-covered fells, offering a true Arctic skiing experience.
