Venture out into the arctic landscape on a cross-country ski adventure. Just opposite the Myrkdalen Hotel, you'll find 30km of groomed trails, but please note that these trails are not suitable for beginners.

If you haven't had enough time on the slopes, make the most of the floodlit skiing up on the Landsbybakken slope above the Myrkdalen Hotel. Throughout the winter season, you can head up to the Village Park on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and enjoy the thrill of skiing under the starry night sky. 

What could be better than relaxing your muscles after a day on the slopes in a sauna that's surrounded by fantastic mountain views? The mountain sauna is near the ski slopes, just a 5-minute walk from the Myrkdalen Hotel. You will need to book your slot on the hotel's website before heading over to the sauna. There is no shower in the building, but there is plenty of snow you can use to cool down with an exhilarating rush after your session. Please note there is a local charge for use of the sauna.

If you’re looking for a fun way to challenge friends and family, sledging is the perfect activity. Ditch the traditional wooden sledge for a faster, modern snow racer. Start at the top of the Myrkdalsekspressen and speed your way down the slopes. You’ll take the last ski lift up, so you’ll have the whole slope to yourself all the way down to the Myrkdalen Hotel! Don’t forget to wear appropriate clothing to keep you warm and a helmet to keep you safe.

Tuesdays (2 hours)

Snowshoeing is a great way to explore parts of the resort that the skiers don’t get to see. On this snowshoe hike, you’ll walk along an easy trail into the untouched wilderness of Myrkdalen. Get ready to go off-piste, as you’ll need to hike your way through frozen forests to the Laavo. Once you’ve found the Laavo, you’ll have the opportunity to warm up by the open fire with a hot cup of Gløgg (a traditional Norwegian drink similar to mulled wine) while your guide tells you stories before making your way back to town. The whole trip takes roughly 2 hours, and you can expect wonderful views of the resort and surrounding mountains behind the setting sun. 

Norway is known for its stunning scenery and dramatic fjords and we’d recommend visiting these during your stay. This fantastic day trip allows you to experience both, taking you on a cruise down one of Norway's most iconic fjords, followed by a roundtrip on the Flåm Railway – voted as one of the most scenic train routes in the world. Your day will start with a bus trip from Myrkdalen to Gudvangen. Here, you’ll jump on one of the electric cruise ships, holding up to 400 people, and slowly make your way down the Nærøyfjord towards the small town of Flåm. The boat trip takes roughly 2 hours, and you’ll be able to soak in all the views, take pictures of the steep mountains and grab a bite to eat from the onboard café. Once docked up in Flåm, you’ll then hop on the Flåm Train for your round trip through the mountains. Both sides of the train offer fantastic views of snow-capped mountains, frozen waterfalls and deep valleys - you’ll even pass through the mountains in the many man-made tunnels. The train trip takes just under 2 hours, and once back in Flåm you’ll get back on the bus before heading back to your accommodation in Myrkdalen.

Experience the magic of husky sledding, a must-add activity to your trip to Myrkdalen. You'll learn how to "mush" your own sled at the dog camp, setting you up for your fantastic 4-kilometre journey through the Norwegian wilderness. Glide through the winter landscape with your team of dogs, surrounded by stunning views of snowy forests and the frozen Lake Myrkdalsvatnet. Each sled is shared by two people, and adults are welcome to try driving. Remember to bundle up in your warmest clothes, and there'll be a bonfire and a hot drink ready to help you warm up and relax once your ride is over.
