Beginner skiing and snowboarding around Interlaken
You'll have access to to three legendary spots – Grindelwald, Mürren and Wengen – each perfect for building your skills.
In Grindelwald, head to the Bodmi nursery slopes at the top of the villages to find your ski legs. Once you're feeling steady, the wide, sun-drenched blue runs of the 'First' area are unbeatable for confidence boosting.
Wengen is the ultimate home base for beginners and families. Start at the convenient village nursery slopes or the Beginners Park at Kleine Scheidegg. You'll love the long, sweeping blue runs that lead back into the valley – they're practically designed for perfecting your technique.
Mürren is ideal for a quieter, more secluded vibe. Take the funicular up to Allmenhubel for easy, well-groomed runs that are perfect for practicing your turns away from the crowds. When you're ready to level up, head over to Winteregg to test yourself on a mix or gentle blue slopes.
Intermediate skiing and snowboarding around Interlaken
Once you've found your ski legs, the Jungfrau region really opens up. Interlaken puts you right at the centre of an intermediate playground.
Looking for a challenge? Head over to the long red runs in the First area of Grindelwald, or visit Männlichen for more challenging tree-lined runs. If your legs are feeling strong, Männlichen also gives you access to the longest runs in the region, taking you all the way down into Grund.
Mürren-Schilthorn is an absolute haven for intermediates. Think plenty of cruisy blues and winding reds all served with a side of the most breathtaking views in Switzerland: the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountain peaks.
Advanced skiing and snowboarding around Interlaken
If you’re an experienced skier or rider looking to test your limits, Interlaken is your gateway to some of the most legendary terrain in the Alps. We’re talking steep gradients, technical descents and world-famous race courses that will keep your heart rate up all day.
If you'd like to follow in the tracks of the pros, the world-famous Lauberhorn race in Wengen is a must. It's a bucket-list slope for a reason – 12 kilometres of technical piste that leads you all the way back into the village.
Why not take on the Eiger's shadow? The Eigernordwand chairlift in Grindelwald will drop you at the top of some serious adrenaline inducing runs. From the top, jump into the 'Punchbowl' red or tackle the notorious black runs like 'Oh God' (yes, that really is its name) and 'Black Rock'. If you choose 'Black Rock', be prepared for two kilometres of steep gradients and rapid-fire turns through dark rock formations.
And for ultimate bragging rights, head to the Schilthorn and drop into Slope 9 (Direttissima), also known as Mürren's Steepest. with a 88% gradient, it's the steepest slope in the entire Jungfrau area. It's not for the faint of heart, but for those of you who dare, the rush is unbeatable.

Where to stay in Interlaken
We have two fantastic hotels in Interlaken. Both options put you close to the action, but they offer completely different views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.
If you're after a bit of history and a quiet spot by the water, the Grand Beau-Rivage is a solid choice – it sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Spend your afternoons at the La Vallee SPA for some well deserved post-ski relaxation, grab a drink on the Aare terrace or just enjoy the more traditional relaxed atmosphere in the comfortable rooms.
Alternatively, if you'd prefer to be right in the thick of things, Hotel Metropole is about as central as it gets. It's a short walk from the main train station and makes getting around town really easy. The highlight is the 18th-floor Top o'Met Restaurant – it's the tallest building around, so you get a clear look at the stunning Jungfrau mountains.
Discover Interlaken
Interlaken isn’t just a destination – it’s a basecamp for high-altitude winter sports and Alpine thrills (and a destination we can’t get enough of). While Switzerland is famous for its peaks and lakes, Interlaken brings them all together in one spot. Once the snow hits, the dense forests and sleepy villages transform into a massive winter playground. Grab your winter gear and your camera – the mountains are calling, and the views are incredible.
While you won’t find chairlifts in the centre of town, that’s Interlaken’s secret weapon. Think of the village as your mountain basecamp with access to three world-class ski areas. Hop on the mountain railway and in half an hour, you're exploring the Jungfrau region’s 210km of runs. Whether you’re looking for a gentle cruise or a steep challenge, you can pick the perfect area to match your mood every single morning.
Breaking the classic ‘ski town’ mould, this resort is packed with winter activities that don’t require a lift pass. Step off the beaten path and trek through the backcountry on snowshoes or grab a paddle and kayak across the glassy waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz – you’ll see the Alps reflected in the ripples with every stroke. And if you’re feeling competitive, nothing beats racing your family down a toboggan run. If you’re looking to explore every inch of the Alps this winter, Interlaken is your key.
Our flexible short ski breaks in Switzerland have you covered! Hit the slopes for as long or as short as you like. Design your perfect Swiss ski getaway! Choose your duration, departure day, hotel, and resort. Fly from your preferred airport and customize your trip with extras like ski hire and lift passes.

It's the ultimate way to indulge and refuel after a day in the Bernese Oberland.
Interlaken's nightlife is all about low-key vibes and high-fives after a day of adrenaline. Since this town runs on extreme sports, the evening mood is social rather than club-heavy - perfect for swapping stories over a Swiss craft beer. Most of the actions stays centred around the Höheweg and the streets between the two train stations. You'll most likely find a young, international crowd gathered in pubs and legendary hostel bars like 'Balmers' and 'Funny Farm'.
Don't expect wild après style parties, instead you'll find relaxed spots where tables are pushed aside on the weekends to make room for a dancefloor. Although summer is the liveliest time to grab a drink, winter brings an unmatched cosy, quiet energy. Whether you're toasting a successful day skiing the Jungfrau region or simply looking to enjoy the evening with a quiet cocktail, the scene is refreshingly down-to-earth. It's the kind of place where the party stays chill, the beer is cold and the focus remains on the mountains.
In Interlaken, bring your body, mind and soul into balance against a backdrop of stunning natural beauty. The Bernese Oberland provides an unparalleled range of wellness options - boost your immune system in a steam bath infused with revitalising herbal essences, find your zen in a sauna with views of snow-covered peaks or treat yourself to a rejuvenating exfoliating massage.
From saltwater pools and Jacuzzis to breathtaking infinity pools that overlook the glittering lakes, these wellness oases cater to your every need. If you're looking to stay active, you can get your muscles in shape on modern exercise machines before winding down with an invigorating spa treatment. No matter which favourite oasis you choose, you are guaranteed pure relaxation nestled right between the majestic mountains and the water.
You can step straight into a real-life fairytale as snowflakes transform Interlaken into a pristine white wonderland. With over 220 kilometres of well-maintained trails to explore, you’ll find yourself hiking through silent, frost-dusted forests and past mountain streams where ice crystals sparkle under the Bernese Oberland sun. Whether you’re looking for a casual stroll or a challenging trek, the network offers something for every level, with GPS data available online to keep you on the right track.
Along the way, you’ll be treated to iconic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks, alongside the striking colours of the lakes - especially the deep emerald hues of Lake Brienz and the glistening surface of Lake Thun. For a truly unique experience, take the chairlift up to Axalp or traverse the ridge from Niederhorn to Waldegg at nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. And when you need a break from the crisp air, you can duck into a rustic mountain cabin to warm up with authentic Swiss specialties.
