Things to do in Interlaken

Interlaken Hot Tug Activity ©André Meier

Ditch the standard spa and take the heat to the water. Imagine soaking in a HotTug (a literal floating hot tub) steaming at a perfect 38°C while you glide across the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz. It’s the only experience of its kind in Switzerland, and the best part? You’re the captain. You’ll steer this electric-powered boat yourself, making it the ultimate way to explore the scenery with your favourite people. Grab your friends, hop in and cruise the lake in the cosiest way possible.

Trade the slopes for the skates and glide your way through Interlaken. Whether you’re hitting the all-weather regional rinks or soaking up the views at the natural rink by Lake Brienz, you’re in for a winter treat. Try your hand at curling or Bavarian curling for some competitive fun, then wrap up the day by warming up in a cosy lounge. It’s the perfect mix of Alpine magic and chill vibes.

Step off the beaten path and trek through Interlaken’s untouched winter landscapes on a guided snowshoe tour. Whether you’re chasing sun-drenched views of the lakes and peaks or exploring the silent, snow-dusted forests under a full moon, there’s a route for every pace. It’s the perfect way to escape the crowds, breathe in the crisp Alpine air and experience the tranquil side of the mountains.

Get ready for a rush on Interlaken’s 70km of sledging runs, where you’ll zip through snow-dusted forests against a backdrop of massive mountain peaks. You can take the easy route up via the mountain railway or earn your turns with a hike before flying back down. For the ultimate Swiss experience, pair your run with a gooey fondue or raclette feast - and don't worry about packing gear, as plenty of local shops have all the sledges and accessories you'll need.

Slide through Interlaken’s idyllic Alpine landscapes on a pair of cross-country skis, with trails designed for both classic style and skating. If you’re a night owl, you can even hit the 4km of floodlit tracks in Aeschiried every weekday evening. Whether you’re a total pro or need a few lessons to find your groove, local shops have all the rental gear you need to explore these stunning winter trails at your own pace.

Interlaken Brienzer Lake Winter Kayak

Experience a side of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun most people miss by hopping into a kayak while the peaks are capped with snow. Between November and April, you can join a guided half-day tour to paddle through the mirror-like water in total peace. And don’t worry about the chill - you’ll be tucked into a warm, dry suit as you glide past the silent, snowy scenery. It’s the perfect way to soak up the Alpine tranquillity and see the mountains from a whole new perspective.

Step into a real-life snow globe and explore Interlaken’s massive network of 220km of groomed winter trails. If you’re looking for a gentle stroll through frozen forests or a challenging hike with panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, there’s a path for every level. Along the way, you can warm up in rustic mountain cabins with some authentic Swiss comfort food. And with GPS-ready routes available online, it’s never been easier to get lost in the magic of the Bernese Oberland.

Feel the icy air on your face and the snow crunching underfoot as you take in breathtaking panoramas of the mountains - from the Swiss Plateau all the way to the Aletsch Glacier and its towering peaks. Sitting at 3,454m, the Jungfraujoch really is a world of its own.

Reaching the "Top of Europe" via mountain railway is an unforgettable full-day adventure. Whether you're visiting Europe’s highest railway station, the scientific research hub, skiing or simply want to enjoy the jaw-dropping views, it’s an absolute must-experience.
