  • The company aims to cement its position as market leader in Lakes & Mountains holidays with the new programme, which, in addition to its 100-plus traditional destinations, introduces an extensive range of innovative new ideas. These include new tours, cruises, resorts and once in a lifetime experiences, from watching live opera on the shores of Lake Constance, to crossing the Swiss Alps on the Bernina Express train.

    Inghams’ Executive Director, Hugh Walton, commented: “This is the most exciting new Lakes & Mountains programme to hit the UK market for many years. It’s not easy finding new angles on a programme that has been established for over 70 years, but for Summer 2013 our development team have excelled themselves! The ‘What’s New’ section (page 4) summarises no less than 30 new strings to our bow, every one of which we believe will strike a chord with our Lakes & Mountains guests, old and new.”

    Several new ways to enjoy the classic Lakes & Mountains attractions of spectacular scenery, fresh air, cuisine and culture include Rhine and Danube river cruises; travel on the iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train from London to Innsbruck, Verona or Venice; small group walking tours in the Austrian Tyrol; a new Inghams-run Chalet Hotel on Lake Garda; small-ship ‘cruise & stay’ holidays on Croatia’s Adriatic coast; and the chance to escape the hurly-burly of modern life with a stay in a tranquil Austrian monastery.

    In addition, 12 new featured resorts join the programme in Italy, Austria, France, Germany and Slovenia. These include the famous French spa resort of Evian on the shores of Lake Geneva; the island resort of Lindau on the Bavarian side of Lake Constance; picturesque Bovec in Slovenia’s Julian Alps; and three new villages around the shores of Lake Como in Italy.

    Value for money remains very much a central feature of the programme, with savings of up to £625 per couple on offer, through a combination of early booking savings and ‘Cash-Back’ offers, free packed lunches, free bike-hire, free guided walks, free afternoon tea and wine with dinner, free travel and excursions.

    Walton concluded: “There is so much more to Lakes & Mountains holidays than may initially meet the eye, and we are excited to be launching such a wealth of new ideas, with something here for all age groups and all interests from hiking and biking to music, art and culture.”
