Hotel La Plaza is in the centre of Corvara in Alta Badia. So, staying here you’ll be surrounded by the stunning UNESCO protected Dolomite mountains. It’s the perfect base for a summer getaway, with well-marked mountain trails right on your doorstep. It’s run by the lovely Eduard Pescolderung and his team, who’ll welcome you with a smile. They have a great sense of pride for their home region and the local Ladin culture – and rightly so! They’ll be more than happy to share the best hiking routes and top tips for exploring Alta Badia with you.

The hotel has that authentic alpine feel – lots of pine furniture and decorated in homely warm tones. A restful night’s sleep is a given in the simple, comfortable guest rooms. We love that they all have balconies where you can enjoy views of the surrounding mountains. The comfort rooms have been updated more recently - upgrade to one of them and you’ll have a little more space too.

Make the most of the gorgeous location and soak up some sun on the terrace or in the garden – there’s bar service out here so you can enjoy tea, coffee or even a cold beer if you fancy! The free tea and cake each afternoon is a real treat, especially if you’ve been out hiking or cycling all day. There’s also a small spa, where you can pamper yourself with a relaxing sauna or dip in the whirlpool, all included in the hotel price (must be pre-booked locally).

Corvara & Colfosco

Corvara is at the foot of the Col Alt & Sassongher mountains, which means it gets the most amazing views and plenty of sunshine. Modern lifts take you from the resort to 2,000 metres in no time. Neighbouring Colfosco sits on the Sellaronda circuit and it's the perfect base for exploring the mountains. Both resorts have great access to the nature reserve of Puez-Odle.

What to see on a Corvara & Colfosco holiday

Hiring an e-bike is one of the best ways to get out and see Corvara, Colfosco and the rest of the Alta Badia area. With just a push of a button, you can get the boost you need to tackle almost any hill that stands in your way. Paths connect the villages in the area so you can plan a different route each day. You’ll find plenty of mountain huts when out and about so you can refuel as you go. Back in resort there’s always plenty going on from yoga days to organised evening walks and stargazing. If you want to squeeze in a round of golf on one of Europe’s highest courses, you don’t have to go far. Head for the Campolongo Pass for a round to remember.

Things to Do

Things to see and do in the Corvara & Colfosco

There's two nature parks here, both part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Puez-Geisler and Fanes-Senes-Braies parks provide miles of exploring with great views, wild flowers and geological places of interest.

Have a day out and head to La Villa, just up the road. Potter round the pretty village and grab a bite to eat and a drink next to Sompunt Lake. On your way back to resort, visit the 16th century Colz Castle. This impressive building has a rich history and makes for a great photo with the Dolomites in the background.

Food & drink

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out here. Alta Badia is one of the best regions in the Dolomites for gastronomy and whether you fancy a casual pizza or a Michelin-starred meal, you’ll find it here. Local food is the star of the show in most restaurants so try speck (cured meats) and the local meats and dairy products. We love grabbing lunch in a mountain hut – they have the best views. If you’re celebrating a special occasion then book a table at  La Stüa de Michil in Hotel La Perla – it’s been awarded a Michelin star for its food.

Walking is one of the main attractions here – there’s so many trails to choose from thanks to the two national parks. We recommend the Cascate del Pisciadu walk. It's about eight kilometres starting in Corvara and out towards the woods before ending at a beautiful waterfall.

The area is crazy about biking - there's over 350 routes to choose from. Hire a bike and set off. The routes vary in difficulty and if you just want to stick to going down the mountains, jump on a lift and enjoy the decent back down, clocking up the miles as you go.

Other activities in the area range from a game of tennis to a round of golf. If you really want to get the blood pumping, take to the sky and try out a tandem paragliding experience, there's no better way to take in the views.

  • Spa with sauna, steam room and whirlpool included in the hotel price (reserve it in advance at reception)

Breakfast is buffet style with everything from cereal to cured meats and tasty fresh bread. They even cook hot options like fried eggs to order - all you need to do is ask.

We love that they prepare afternoon tea and cake each day between 4 - 5pm. It's lovely to come back to after working up an appetite exploring Corvara's stunning natural surroundings. Bar service is available in the garden and out on the terrace.

In a region renowned for its excellent food the bed and breakfast board basis gives you the freedom to try out a different local restaurant every night if you like. There’s everything from pizza and pasta to traditional Ladin cuisine or even fine dining at the local Michelin star restaurant ‘The Stüa de Michil’ just a few minutes’ stroll down the road.
