If you're looking for an authentic mountain retreat, Pension Angelo's a great choice. It's a family-run hotel just outside the centre of Corvara. Jump on the free public bus to get to the centre of town or the lifts that'll take you to the mountain trails. The décor here is a simple Alpine style - it's a cosy place to come back to after a busy day and the staff are very friendly. The four star Sporthotel Panorama next door is the sister hotel and you can use some of their fantastic facilities. This is where you'll have dinner each night too.

If it's your first time in Corvara, we recommend joining one of the guided excursions that  the staff run. It's a great way to get to know the area. If you get some time before dinner, head to the small wellness area to chill out in the steam room or sauna. If you're desperate to go swimming, you can also use the pool at the Sporthotel Panorama (payable locally).

Transfer time: approx. 2 hours 30 mins from Innsbruck airport.

Corvara & Colfosco

Corvara is at the foot of the Col Alt & Sassongher mountains, which means it gets the most amazing views and plenty of sunshine. Modern lifts take you from the resort to 2,000 metres in no time. Neighbouring Colfosco sits on the Sellaronda circuit and it's the perfect base for exploring the mountains. Both resorts have great access to the nature reserve of Puez-Odle.

What to see on a Corvara & Colfosco holiday

Hiring an e-bike is one of the best ways to get out and see Corvara, Colfosco and the rest of the Alta Badia area. With just a push of a button, you can get the boost you need to tackle almost any hill that stands in your way. Paths connect the villages in the area so you can plan a different route each day. You’ll find plenty of mountain huts when out and about so you can refuel as you go. Back in resort there’s always plenty going on from yoga days to organised evening walks and stargazing. If you want to squeeze in a round of golf on one of Europe’s highest courses, you don’t have to go far. Head for the Campolongo Pass for a round to remember.

Things to Do

Things to see and do in the Corvara & Colfosco

There's two nature parks here, both part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Puez-Geisler and Fanes-Senes-Braies parks provide miles of exploring with great views, wild flowers and geological places of interest.

Have a day out and head to La Villa, just up the road. Potter round the pretty village and grab a bite to eat and a drink next to Sompunt Lake. On your way back to resort, visit the 16th century Colz Castle. This impressive building has a rich history and makes for a great photo with the Dolomites in the background.

Food & drink

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out here. Alta Badia is one of the best regions in the Dolomites for gastronomy and whether you fancy a casual pizza or a Michelin-starred meal, you’ll find it here. Local food is the star of the show in most restaurants so try speck (cured meats) and the local meats and dairy products. We love grabbing lunch in a mountain hut – they have the best views. If you’re celebrating a special occasion then book a table at  La Stüa de Michil in Hotel La Perla – it’s been awarded a Michelin star for its food.

Activities

Walking is one of the main attractions here – there’s so many trails to choose from thanks to the two national parks. We recommend the Cascate del Pisciadu walk. It's about eight kilometres starting in Corvara and out towards the woods before ending at a beautiful waterfall.

The area is crazy about biking - there's over 350 routes to choose from. Hire a bike and set off. The routes vary in difficulty and if you just want to stick to going down the mountains, jump on a lift and enjoy the decent back down, clocking up the miles as you go.

Other activities in the area range from a game of tennis to a round of golf. If you really want to get the blood pumping, take to the sky and try out a tandem paragliding experience, there's no better way to take in the views.

They don't provide packed lunches, but they're happy for you to make some rolls at breakfast to take for a picnic lunch on the mountains.
