Hotel Teresa is surrounded by nature at the foot of the famous Plan de Corones mountains. It’s the perfect base for an active holiday. The area's known for its hiking trails, road biking and mountain biking with lots of downhill and free ride paths to choose from. If you want to head up into the mountains, the Pedagà-Piz de Plaies cable car is just 300 metres away. The Schanung-Vallazza family really know their stuff. They’re experts on the area and are always happy to offer advice and recommendations on where to head for the day. They even offer free excursions – we loved wildlife watching in the UNESCO National Park.

The rooms all have a homely feel with private balconies and great views of the natural surroundings. If you can, upgrade to a Superior Room. They are just that bit larger and have been decorated in a more modern alpine style. The food here is definitely something to shout about. The hearty Landin cuisine really hits the spot after a day out in the mountains. The hotel are committed to sustainability and have collaborated with local farms and organisations to make sure that the produce is “zero kilometre” where possible.

Things to Do

Things to see and do in Plan de Corones

Plan de Corones sits below Mount Kronplatz. The unique flat top mountain is perfect for a family day out exploring the area. Keep an eye out for wildlife on the way up in the gondola. At the top there’s a farm where the Tibetan highland yaks are always posing for a photo.

A visit to the Messner Mountain Museum is a must. In this space-like building carved into the rock side you can learn all about Reinhold Messner, the extreme climber and mountaineer. Exhibits include the science of glaciers and the history of the local people.

Food & drink

The region’s famous for its food with influences from Italy, Austria and Switzerland. Be sure to try delicious local food like canederli (bread dumplings) with local speck ham and cheese. Alpine huts dotted around the mountains are some of the best places to immerse yourself in the local food scene. They’re also the perfect spot for a cool beer or refreshing glass of wine.

Mountain biking is massive in the area with loads of trails ready to be torn up. All levels are welcome with a range of routes to try. Enjoy the lovely sweeping flow-lines running down the mountain on your own or speak to the bike school in resort for expert advice.

Plan de Corones is full of action. Have a go at archery, take to the high ropes course or hurl yourself down a zip wire - it’s all possible here.

The latest attraction found at the top of Mount Kronplatz is the Skyscraper. Strap into your harness and let gravity do the rest on this giant swing. Will you be brave enough to keep your eyes open and embrace the incredible views?

Food is a real focal point here. At breakfast each morning you’ll find a wide selection of breads, pastries, fruit, yoghurt and cereals. They also have some hot options like scrambled eggs. Dinner is a choice of four courses accompanied by a salad and vegetable buffet. Once a week they have a traditional Ladin evening where you can get a real feel for the region's culture and typical foods.

Teresa Restaurant centres its food around Tyrollian, Landin and Mediterranean culture – so expect traditional mountain fare and Italian flavours. Farms here in the Alto Adige region, are increasingly diversifying. They are becoming more and more focused on sustainability and the idea of zero kilometre food. The hotel have collaborated with these local producers to ensure, where possible, that the food they serve is locally and sustainably sourced. All of the pasta and bread is homemade – making it irresistible in our opinion.

They have a wide and varied wine list too. They pay special attention to the Alto Adige wine specialities, so just ask for recommendations and they’ll be happy to advise.

Le Café & Bar has a homely atmosphere, delicious pastries and homemade ice cream. It’s an nice place for an aperitif too - they have excellent fresh fruit liqueurs.
