If you choose to stay at Hotel Teresa on your next trip to the Dolomites, you’re in for a treat. You’ll find yourself surrounded by unspoiled nature. It’s located in the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe at the foot of the famous Plan de Corones mountains. From the local stone and wood used to build the property to the ingredients and recipes used in the cooking here, it all links back to the local Landin Culture in this part of Alto Aidge.

It’s the perfect base for an active holiday. The areas known for its hiking trails, road biking and mountain biking with lots of downhill and free ride paths to choose from. If you want to head up into the mountains, the Pedagà-Piz de Plaies cable car is just 300 metres away. The Schanung-Vallazza family and their team here, really know their stuff. They’re experts on the area and are always happy to offer advice and recommendations on where to head for the day. They even offer free excursions – we absolutely loved going out wildlife watching with David, the owner, in the UNESCO National Park. He taught us so much about the regions flora and fauna as we went. If you’re lucky you might even catch sight of eagles flying overhead.

The rooms all have a really homely feel, with private balconies and great views of the natural surroundings. If you can, we’d recommend upgrading to the Superior Rooms, they are just that bit larger and have been decorated in a more modern alpine style. The food here is definitely something to shout about. All rooted in local tradition, they serve hearty Landin cuisine that really hits the spot after a day out in the mountains. With four courses, you won’t go hungry! They are committed to sustainability and have collaborated with local farms and organisations to make sure that the produce is “zero kilometre” where possible. Don’t leave without trying the fresh fruit liqueurs in the bar – they’re the perfect aperitif!

Transfer time: approx. 3 hours by coach from Verona airport.

Plan de Corones

Summers in the Dolomites are special - take a trip to Plan de Corones, known as Kronplatz, to see for yourself. Our hotels are based in San Vigilio di Merebbe, a small village on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Fanes-Sennes-Prags National Park. It's full of well-marked walking and cycling trails and some pretty jaw dropping views. There's plenty of other outdoor activities to give a try too, you'll find everything from paragliding to zip lining.

There is something for everyone here - it's perfect for a relaxing holiday were you can soak up nature. The lifts run in the summer, so you can reach the high peaks and their spectacular views even if you're not here to hike. Once you're in the mountains you're bound to stumble upon traditional refugio's where they serve some of the tastiest local Ladin and South Tyrolean cuisine. The region is famous for its food with influences from Italy, Austria and Switserland. Canederli - bread dumplings with local speck ham and cheese - are our favourite lunchtime snack in the mountains.

Les Fontanies wellness area is the perfect way to rejuvenate after a log day exploring the Plan de Corones mountains. The spas name comes from the natural springs here – they create a natural kneipp bath. It’s a great way to soothe your legs as it promotes circulation.

There’s also a heated indoor pool with hydro massage, sauna with essential oils, water beds in the relaxation area and a bio sauna. Spending some time here really is a lovely way to relax. You can also treat yourself to beauty treatments and massages (payable locally).

If you want to continue your exercise regime while you’re away, there’s also a fitness room.

The hotel run a variety of free activities and excursions each week including, guided excursions in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Natural Park, sunrise wildlife watching, yoga or body flow class. There are also some paid excursions, like a guided mountain bike tour once a week (payable locally)

Food is a real focal point here – with lots of people staying here in the mountains to get out and explore, exercise and see the sights, they know that food is the fuel to keep their guests going.

At breakfast each morning you’ll find a wide selection of breads, pastries, fruit and yoghurt, cereals. They also have some hot options, like scrambled eggs, if you want something a little more substantial before a day out in the mountains. There’s also plenty of tea, coffee and juices to choose from.

Dinner is served in the dining room. You’ll have a four course dinner with choices, accompanied by a salad and vegetable buffet. There’s a traditional dinner served once a week too, which can be enjoyed outside in good weather.

Teresa Restaurant

The cuisine centres around Tyrollian, Landin and Mediterranean culture – so expect traditional mountain fare and Italian flavours. Farms here in the Alto Adige region, are increasingly diversifying. They are becoming more and more focused on sustainability and the idea of “kilometre zero” food. The hotel have collaborated with these local producers to ensure, where possible, that the food they serve is locally and sustainably sourced. All of the pasta and bread is homemade – making it irresistible in our opinion.

They have a wide and varied wine list. They pay special attention to the Alto Adige wine specialities, so just ask for recommendations and they’ll be happy to advise.

Enjoy the cosy homely atmosphere in the hotel’s café and bar. They have delicious pastry’s here and homemade ice cream. It’s an nice place for an aperitif too, they have excellent fresh fruit liqueurs.
