Zermatt is a charming town full of rustic chalets and old farm buildings. It's famous for the Matterhorn mountain which first brought adventurous mountaineers to the region, as they attempted to climb it. Nowadays, holidays to Zermatt are still all about the mountains, but access is a lot easier thanks to the fantastic network of lifts and mountain trains. Ride the cog-wheel railway up to Gornergrat for the best view of the Matterhorn, or make the panoramic journey by cable-car over to Cervinia in Italy on the new Matterhorn Alpine Crossing.
