What are the best activities on a Lapland Adventure holiday?

1. Husky sledding adventures

Get ready for a husky-ride! Bundle up in the sleigh as a team of excited huskies race through Lapland’s snow-covered forests, their paws kicking up glittering snowflakes as they go. It’s like stepping into a real-life winter movie - you’ll hear the dogs panting, feel the sleigh glide, and maybe even take turns shouting “mush!” as your new furry friends lead the way.

The huskies are always animated and ready to go. As soon as they are harnessed to their sleds, the sound of excited barking fills the air. The huskies are in their element as the sled glides across the pristine snow.

After some essential instruction you and your team of huskies will be on your way. Keeping in line along the trails, speeding through the wilderness and weaving through the deep forest in the low winter sun.

Our husky excursions have been tailor-made to suit all ages, experience and fitness levels. With the shorter safaris being the most popular, there are also longer half-day trips and an evening safari in search of the Northern Lights.

An occasion you will never forget.

2. Reindeer sleigh rides & magical farm visits

At the reindeer farm, you’ll learn all about Sami herders and their traditions, then snuggle under a warm blanket for a peaceful sleigh ride through the sparkling snow. Keep your eyes peeled - you might just spot Rudolph’s red nose in the distance!

Visiting a local reindeer farm gives you an evocative picture of the traditional lifestyle, in which reindeer play a central part. You will hear great stories from your hosts and learn all about the reindeer, including their fondness for mushrooms.

Ride in a reindeer sleigh through the snowy fells and forests, which feels as if you have entered the secret world of Narnia through a magic wardrobe. At least until your reindeer decides to pause for a snack on some tasty lichen under the snow... some do have a stubborn streak.

Either way, you can get close to one of our (and Santa’s) favourite animals - something not to be missed!

3. Snowmobile safaris for smaller explorers

Hop on and hold tight - this is Lapland’s version of a rollercoaster! For families with older kids, snowmobiling is pure Arctic excitement. Zoom across frozen lakes and through snow-dusted forests, following shimmering trails that lead deep into the wilderness. And when night falls? Swap headlights for the Northern Lights - a glowing sky show like no other!

Experience an exhilarating ride through the breath-taking arctic scenery, changing from deep pine forests, fells, moorland, to the wide open expanses of frozen lakes and rivers.

You will be kitted out in some serious winter gear, including complete thermal suits and boots, thick gloves and insulated helmets. With the surprisingly easy to drive snowmobiles you will be on your trip in no time. Pausing for a break halfway through to really take in the snowy wilderness that is around you.

Choosing from daytime and evening safaris, there is a snowmobile safari for everyone to enjoy.

4. Snowshoe stomps & forest treks

Strap on your snowshoes and head out on a winter wonderland treasure hunt! Trudge, stomp and giggle your way through the snow as you follow animal tracks and discover hidden corners of the forest. It’s the perfect adventure for mini explorers who love to wander, wonder, and make snow angels along the way.

6. Glass-roof cabins & Northern Lights hunts

Bedtime doesn’t get better than this - lie back, snuggle under the covers and watch the Northern Lights swirl across the sky from your glass-roof cabin. When the night sparkles green and pink above you, it’s like sleeping inside a fairy-house! Want more adventure? Head out on an Aurora hunt by car to see the lights dance up close.

Set back from Levi and equipped with thermal glass roofs, you'll have the best chance of spotting the Northern Lights in the arctic night sky on this overnight stay. You can choose between staying in the Superior Igloos situated on the side of the fell or the Prime Superior Igloos facing the forest and valley. For a truly unforgettable stay, Suite Igloos with a private terrace and jacuzzi are available upon request.

5. Ice-fishing fun

Ever wondered what it’s like to fish through ice? Wrap up warm and together you’ll make a hole in a frozen lake and drop your line to see what’s swimming below! While you wait for a nibble, enjoy steaming mugs of hot chocolate by a crackling campfire. It’s peaceful, a little bit magical, and a lot of fun.

Inghams top tips:

  • Layer your outfits
Arctic layering is essential: thermal base layers, fleece insulation, waterproof outer shell, plus warm gloves, hats, socks. Many resorts provide snowsuits, boots and mittens.
  • Pace yourselves
The cold drains energy. Build in rest periods, indoor warmups, and stagger more demanding activities. Don’t try to do everything in one day - leave margin for flexibility.
  • Photograph smart
Bring extra batteries (cold drains them fast), dry bags, and warm gloves that allow camera use.
  • Manage expectations
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon - sightings can’t be guaranteed. But staying in dark, remote settings, checking weather forecasts, and having flexibility in your nights all boost your chances.
  • Stay warm & hydrated
Hot drinks, soup breaks, small treats, and regular sheltering will keep spirits (and bodies) up.
Always have hand warmers on hand.
  • Check age & safety rules
Some excited teens may wish to drive a snowmobile - but there are age limits and safety briefings. Similarly, reindeer sleighs or husky rides may have restrictions for youngest children.
  • Balance indoor and outdoor
Museums, local cultural visits, Sami heritage centres, or warming huts are good fallback options if weather turns or energy flags.
