Star Arctic Hotel

Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

Welcome to the Star Arctic! A modern and stylish hotel boasting spacious Lappish-style suites and Aurora cabins.  A great choice for those looking for an intimate and exclusive feel stay, it is located at the top of Kaunispaä fell, away from the light pollution of the village centre and an excellent spot from which to view the Northern Lights.

The unique aspect of the Star Arctic has to be the rooms. All of the suites are located within their own buildings a short walk from the main reception and restaurant area.

Scenic View Suites are duplex with a large glass window looking out over the main village. The bedroom area (twin or double) is located at the top of the duplex stairs (fairly steep), and have their own north-facing window.

Scenic View Suites with sauna and kitchenette are also available adding more comfort and space.

For an unforgettable experience, opt to spend your stay in an Aurora Glass Cabin where you can truly immerse in the nature of Lapland and even admire the Northern Lights from your bed (we also enjoy the colourful light settings controlled by the main remote- but we don't want to spoil all the surprises)!

Enjoy casual dining in the hotel's restaurant, also boasting beautiful views across the fell. Natural ingredients are sourced from the local area including fish from the Inari region and reindeer from traditional Sami farms plus their full menu, originally crafted by Finnish Michelin Star Chef Jouni Toivanen, combines local Lappish flavours with popular modern cuisines bringing a uniquely elegant and casual choice for all. Enjoy a buffet breakfast and a multi course dinner served to the table.

The hotel is located approximately 2km from the Saariselka centre and Inghams excursion pick-up point, which can be reached by ski bus or 30-minutes' pleasant walk.  The hotel also provides a shuttle service on request at a small fee of €5 per person per way, paid locally.  The hotel has a public sauna, well-equipped gym with large glass windows, modern restaurant and lobby bar, all located in the main building.

Saariselka

Located in the wild mystical north of Lapland, Saariselkä is an exceptionally friendly uncommercialised resort with a unique frontier atmosphere. With magnificent Arctic wilderness scenery just on the doorstep, it makes an ideal resort for an all-round winter wonderland adventure. The skies are often a deep hue of pink and purple, the pine trees heavily laden with snow, and being so far north there is a good possibility of seeing the Northern Lights too. Here you are deep in Sámi country, the colourful native people of Lapland, many of whom work in the resort and have their own reindeer herds in forests nearby.

Saariselkä is renowned for its excellent cross-country ski trails in the adjoining National Park. With cosy cafes and the charming Panimo Bar for a hot chocolate to live music. For a really memorable experience sleep under the magical night sky in a cosy thermal glass igloo.

Northern Lights Adventure Week: Experience a '7 Night Adventure' at the Muotka Wilderness Lodge or combine with a visit to Saariselkä with our 'Muotka 2-Centre Adventure'.

Did you know that if you book a 7 night holiday to Lapland in December you can also visit Santa in his home?

  • Simply pick up and purchase the 'Visit Santa's Home' excursion at the time of booking and the whole family can enjoy a group meeting with Santa, feed and pet Santa's reindeer and see how Elf Smith sends presents around the world! Warm up inside with hot drinks and ginger biscuits.
  • Every 7 night holiday to Lapland in December includes a festive feast - there's even a small gift and certificate for every child! For even more festive fun, why not indulge in a reindeer sleigh ride or dash through enchanting snow-laden forests on a snowmobile or husky safari!
