About Braunbär Hotel & Spa

The Braunbär Hotel & Spa is Wengens newest hotel on the main street.  Located opposite the Männlichen gondola and nursery slopes, you can easily get onto the Jungfrau Ski Area each day.

The Braunbär has been fully refurbished, each bedroom is furnished in a modern style with a nod to the past, and many of the rooms have views of the village and surrounding mountains. The family duplex rooms are a great option for families and friends travelling to Switzerland this winter season, with twin beds and bunk beds on the mezzanine level, plus these rooms have a balcony with village rooms. 

If you fancy a day off the slopes, or want to soothe your muscles after - make the most of the NUXE Spa, have a dip in the pool or recharge in the sauna or steam room. There's also a lovely outdoor sun terrace with a fireplace, overlooking the snowy scenery which surrounds Wengen. After rejuvenating in the spa, the hotels bar and lounge is a lovely spot to catch up with friends and family - there's a good selection of drinks and a fireplace for you to cosy up in front of.

The Braunbär is has an ideal location on Wengens main street. Just opposite the Männlichen cable-car and a short walk to the railway taking you to the Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch, you really couldn't ask for a better situated hotel.

When it comes to dinner, you can enjoy a delicious four course evening meal in the Restaurant Braunbär, the kitchen team pride themselves on using local and seasonal produce from the region. For a unique meal, why not book an evening meal in the Fondue Gondola or the Grillkota? Both restaurant areas serve traditional Swiss fondue or raclette in unusual settings (booking required). 

Start your morning with a delicious continental buffet breakfast, you can enjoy a selection of Swiss cheeses, a variety of breads, pastries, fresh fruit and daily hot options. Dairy and gluten free products are available on the buffet.

Evening meals will be taken in the chic Restaurant Goldlöckchen The menu features seasonal and local produce, showcasing the food of Wengen. You can enjoy a four course evening meal with a choice of starter, main and dessert. 

If you are celebrating a special occasion or just fancy treating yourselves, the hotel has two unique dining areas. The Fondue Gondola is the perfect spot to enjoy a traditional Swiss fondue in a unique and romantic setting (pay locally). Be sure to pre-book in advance as there's only one! Every week the hotel hosts Swiss cheese evenings in the Grillkota, a small wooden hut, it is the ideal spot to enjoy traditional fondue or raclette with family and friends. Evenings are held for a minimum of eight people, and bookings need to be made in advance (pay locally). Private bookings can be made for groups of eight +.

Standard Twin Rooms are around 13m² sleeping two people, and have village views.

Classic Rooms are slightly larger at around 19m² sleeping two people, and have village views.

Privilege Rooms are around 26m² sleeping two people, if you want a bit more space these rooms have a seating area with a sofa and views of the village.

Duplex Rooms are around 35m² set over two levels, sleeping up to four people. These rooms have a seating area downstairs with a balcony with a village view, and an open plan sleeping area upstairs with twin beds and bunk beds. Best suited to two adults, two children or three adults.  During high season (20th Dec-02nd Jan/ 07th Feb- 06th Mar) the Duplex Rooms accommodate a minimum of three people.

The Braunbär Hotel Spa is accessible for guests with reduced mobility. The hotel is located in the centre of Wengen, a short (160 metre) walk from the train station along a relatively flat pathway, once at the hotel there's three steps into the property however an access ramp is available. The lift goes to all floors, and there is an access ramps available. There are four adapted rooms available for guests with reduced mobility, please give our team a call to book one of these rooms.

Discover Wengen

The idyllic village of Wengen is high up on a sunny, sheltered terrace with spectacular views, dominated by the magnificent trio of peaks – the Eiger (Ogre), Mönch (Monk) and Jungfrau (Maiden) – which provide a spectacular backdrop to Mürren and Wengen, and in part to Grindelwald. You'll arrive in this charming, friendly village by scenic mountain railway as it has reduced traffic, although you'll spot a few electric vehicles around.

Home of the famous Lauberhorn downhill race this area is a skiers paradise. With the Jungfrau whole area pass you'll have access to skiing and boarding in Wengen, Grindelwald and Mürren ski areas, on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.  Take the cable-car from Wengen village centre, which links to Grindelwald’s ski area or take the mountain railway to the Kleine Scheidegg where both ski areas meet. Whatever your ski ability, you'll have the chance to enjoy the expanse of slopes and beautiful scenery. If skiing and boarding's not for you or just fancy a few day's doing other winter activities, take advantage of the amazing winter walking and sledging network. Pre book a non-skiers pass and use the lift and rail network to link the sledge runs and hiking trails.

Things to do in Wengen

Sledding

Wengen has a range of picturesque sledging routes, with one of the most popular being the 4.5km track that descends from the Männlichen top station to the village. Another great sledding spot is Kleine Scheidegg, where you can race down the Fox Run, located next to the Lauberhorn race course. For those seeking the longest sledging adventure, a trip to Grindelwald is a must. You can experience the thrilling Big Pintenfritz, a 15km run starting at Faulhorn and winding its way down to Grindelwald.

Swap your skis for a pair of skates, and enjoy whizzing around the ice. The village’s charming rink is perfect for skaters of all levels, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The artificial open air ice rink in the centre of Wengen is open from November (subject to weather conditions).

Snowshoe

With around 100 kilometres of well-marked hiking trails across the Jungfrau region, you wont have to walk the same trail twice. There are a number of trails around Wengen, however we recommend heading up to Kleine Scheidegg where there is a variety of trails to suit different levels. Be sure to pre-book your non-skiers walking pass before you travel.

Head up to the 'Top of Europe' at the UNESCO heritage site of the Jungfraujoch and Aletsch Glacier, located at an impressive  3,454 metres, for incredible views across the region. Whilst you are up there, make sure to check out the Ice Palace where there is a variety of ice sculptures to marvel at.

Schilthorn

The brand new Schilthorn cable car is one of the most spectacular cable car journeys in the Swiss Alps. It connects the village of Stechelberg, deep in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, with the summit of the Schilthorn (2,970 metres), passing through the mountain villages of Gimmelwald, Mürren, and Birg along the way. The cableway has an impressive gradient of 159.4 percent - climbing 775 metres in just four minutes.

This cable car route includes some of the steepest ascents in Switzerland, particularly on the final section between Birg and Schilthorn, where passengers are lifted swiftly up sheer rock faces to reach the summit station. The journey is divided into four dramatic sections and offers panoramic views of snow covered peaks, deep valleys, and cliffside villages.

Once at the top, the summit of Schilthorn, offers panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. You may also recognise the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant, made famous by the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
