About Store Ringheim Hotel

Tucked at the base of Hangur Mountain, surrounded by rolling countryside, Store Ringheim feels like stepping into a slower, more peaceful side of Norway – but in summer, it’s anything but sleepy. Whether that’s hiking up Hangur or wandering through the quiet farmland that still shapes this place, there’s a calmness to it, but also a sense that adventure is right on your doorstep.

The history is impossible to miss. Dating back to 1778, this former working farm has been beautifully restored into a small, character-filled boutique stay. Original wooden beams, traditional buildings and thoughtful details give it a lived-in, authentic feel – like you’re part of the story rather than just passing through. The Old Farm House, Gardshuset, dates back to 1860, and each room still carries a piece of its past – once a kitchen, an attic, or a family bedroom, now reimagined into somewhere completely unique to stay.

And then there’s the food. Fresh, seasonal, and rooted in the land around you, it’s the kind of farm-to-table dining that just tastes better after a day spent outdoors.

There's also a hotel shuttle service that will take you to and from the Voss gondola each day.

The rustic Restaurant Flor'n features tasty homemade meals made with seasonal and local ingredients. Much of what you find on the breakfast table and the evening menu comes from the farm or from local producers in the Voss region.

The Store Ringheim farm has its own strawberry field, various berry bushes and a large kitchen garden with both flowers and herbs, all of which feature on the small menu. From hearty breakfasts to evening meals, every bite reflects the farm’s dedication to sustainability and local flavours, making your culinary experience at Store Ringheim as memorable as your stay itself.

Each morning, you can enjoy a tasty buffet breakfast with a range of sweet and savoury options available.

More about Voss

Things to do in Voss

The historic Voss church just on the outskirts of the town is a beautiful building that dates back to the 13th century. Outside the church you'll find three reliefs made up of three artists and sculptors, the Bergslien artists who were all members of the same family and lived in Voss during the 19th century.  Although most of their art is now in Oslo, there are several places around Voss dedicated to these artists including a little museum that opens on selected days (usually on a Sunday) during certain summer months.

If you’re wishing to learn a bit more about what life was like centuries ago in Voss, then the Voss Folke Museum has a permanent exhibition in place. It’s set in a beautiful location across several historic buildings that you can wander around at your leisure.

There’s plenty to keep you busy when you’re in Voss with a bunch of activities on offer that kids and adults will love.

The bowling and activity centre has eight bowling lanes, two pool tables as well as a great play area for kids. Or, head to the Vossabadet Indoor Swimming Centre which has an exercise pool and a family friendly pool, it’s great for cooling off on warmer days.

For epic views and a great day out, you can head up in the gondola. Once at the top you can wander some of the walking trails, dine in the restaurant or simply admire the views.

If you’re wanting to get a little further afield then there are several local bike trails to explore. Go in search of waterfalls or lakes.

Ekstremsportveko Festival - Voss also holds the Ekstremsportveko festival annually at the end of June (check event dates prior to booking, you’ll need to purchase tickets to attend this event and they can sell out fast so it’s best to book in advance). It’s the largest extreme sport festival in the world, you’ll get to see national and international athletes do everything from kayaking, paragliding, skydiving, skateboarding, rafting and many more. During this time Voss has a great energy with lots of people flocking to this mountain town especially for the event.

Whether you’re looking to head to the famous village of Flam and spend the day admiring the views or, head to the city of Bergen for plenty of sightseeing, Voss puts you in a great position to explore the area. There are numerous train routes to get you to different destinations or, you may wish to book onto one of our excursions.

Gudvangen takes around an hour and thirty minutes to get to by bus from Voss. It sits right at the entrance to the Nærøyfjord, so you won’t be disappointed by the views. What makes this village so unique though is its Viking heritage which has led to a reconstruction of a Viking settlement, called The Viking Village – there are often exhibits with workshops and sometimes performances taking place. You may wish to purchase tickets in advance as it can be a popular attraction during high season.

If you're wanting to explore further on from Gudvangen then you can always book onto a Fjord cruise that takes you through the Naeroyfjord and journey to Flam. From Flam you can catch the flam railway to Myrdal where you can catch a train back to Voss (this journey must be booked in advance as flam railway tickets can sell out months in advance) see our excursions below for more information.

From £240 per person

To start the walk you'll hop on a transfer to Kiellandbu which takes about 30 minutes, passing some gorgeous scenery on the way. The walk starts near the Hamlagrøvatnet lake and takes you through wild Norwegian landscapes and up to the fascinating and popular Kiellandbu. The Kiellandbu is a small cabin, spectacularly located near the edge of a cliff. Behind it, you’ll see a narrow fjord, and if you look out to the horizon, you'll see the brilliantly white Kiellandbu glacier, which makes this a truly magical mountain experience!
