Although they are only about 35 miles apart at opposite ends of Lake Garda, Desenzano and Riva, our selected resorts on this new twin centre holiday, are certainly very different. Desenzano at the southern end of the lake is a bustling, lively town and is an excellent centre from which to explore the regions’ two most famous cities, Venice and Verona. A full day visit to magical Venice is included in your holiday cost. Verona, famous for its Arena and Opera programme, is easily accessible by the local bus service or by train. Riva, your second centre, is at the northern tip of the lake in the foothills of the mighty Dolomites and a full range of excursions into the mountains is offered. A full day tour to the Dolomites in included in your holiday. There’s also a regular boat service to picturesque Limone and Malcesine. In both resorts, the Inghams Representatives will be on hand to advise and assist and help you enjoy your holiday to the full.

Itinerary

Day 1: Saturday
Transfer by coach from the airport to your hotel in Desenzano.

Day 2: Sunday
Free day to get to know the area at your own pace. Desenzano combines a picturesque lakeside resort setting with the vibrant atmosphere of a thriving Italian community. Stroll along the busy historic centre and experience the café culture. The pretty harbour is surrounded by bars and restaurants, perfect for a spot of lunch or an evening aperitivo.

Day 3: Monday
Day at leisure in Desenzano, take a boat ride to discover other nearby resorts on the lake. Desenzano is well linked to all major towns on Lake Garda by both normal and high speed ferry services. Sirmione with its famous peninsula, castle and Roman ruins is a favourite with visitors to the lake and is just 20 minutes away by ferry.

Day 4: Tuesday
A full day tour to the magical city of Venice. Board a private boat and cruise down the Giudecca Canal to disembark close to St. Mark's Square. Enjoy around 4 hours of free time to explore the Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Rialto Bridge. Take one of the optional tours including a romantic gondola ride or a cruise around the Lagoon.

Day 5: Wednesday
Transfer to your second centre by public ferry, it takes a leisurely 5 hours to travel along the length of the lake to Riva. Arrive at your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 6: Thursday
A free day to relax and enjoy Riva. Time perhaps to stroll along the lakeside promenade which extends to the adjacent resort of Torbole. For the more active, Riva and Limone are linked by an impressive 'floating' cycle path perched above the lake - sensational views and a rewarding way to spend the day.

Day 7: Friday
A full day tour to the Dolomites, one of the most unique and dramatic range of mountains in the world. You will enjoy the spectacular scenery as you journey over the passes between Selva and Val di Fassa. Known for both their striking looks for being a melting pot of Austrian and Italian cultures, the Dolomites are a year round destination for those in search of superb food, characterful towns and an experience of Ladin culture.

Days 8-9: Saturday/Sunday
A weekend to relax and enjoy Riva. Transport links (bus and boat) are excellent and you can easily visit nearby resorts like Limone or Malcesine, or take a bus into the hills for scenic walking. The northern part of the lake is known for water sports, especially sailing and wind surfing for those looking to get out onto the water.

Day 10/11: Monday/Tuesday
Free days to relax and to enjoy all that Riva has to offer. The cobbled streets, numerous gelaterias and long beaches are all on hand to help you while away the time. The stunning old Ponale Road is a picturesque path linking Riva and Lake Ledro boasting wonderful views and shouldn't be missed - we recommend setting off early in July/August to avoid the hottest times of the day.
