Beginner skiing in Kitzbühel

There are several nursery slopes and the main area is conveniently located at the base of the Hahnenkamm. With the help of the ‘Red Devils’ ski school in Kitzbühel, learning is made easy and great fun. What makes this area unique is that you won't move off the free beginners area until your 2nd day.

Intermediate skiing in Kitzbühel

The choice of blue and red runs is extensive with lots of wide open slopes on the Kitzbüheler Horn and the scenic area of Pass Thurn. The Hahnenkamm has a large interlinked network of lifts which encompasses the areas of Kirchberg, Aschau, Aurach, Jochberg and Pass Thurn. A further 800km plus additional runs can be explored with the Super Ski Card. 

Advanced skiing in Kitzbühel

The ultimate challenge is the ‘Streif’ with its vertical ‘Mäusefalle’ which even the ski racers fear. Off-piste skiing is also good and varied, one of the best areas is at Pass Thurn, where modern lifts carry skiers towards the Resterhöhe area for some of the finest skiing in the region.

Snowboarding in Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel’s two snowparks offer plenty of fun and challenges, as do the various special snowboarding pistes provided throughout the area. The XL Qpark has several rails, kickers and boxes. The park can be located by the Hanglalm at Pass Thurn.

Group ski lessons need a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked lessons and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private lessons to the value of the lessons you had originally booked.

In Kitzbühel you’ll have an attractive medieval town, perfectly prepared pistes and modern lifts with heated seats. You can’t get enough of the spectacular mountains that extend for miles.

The Hahnenkamm lift is where you’ll access the Kitzbühel Alps for a large variety of runs. You’ll find the Hahnenkamm Streif, the Ski World Cup’s most famous downhill run. It’s used in January for the Ski World Cup, attracting visitors from all over the world. You’ll need to be very experienced, at least if you try it from the top.

You’ll have the option of the less crowded Kitzbüheler Horn, on the opposite side of the valley. Great for a warm up ski, before tackling the daring runs in the afternoon. Beginners will enjoy the snow park here and there are plenty of marked trails for freeriders and snowboarders.

Kitzbühel has a vibrant and varied food and drink scene, with everything from family-run restaurants serving traditional Austrian specialties to gourmet restaurants and international cuisine. Many kitchens focus on locally sourced ingredients, including alpine cheese, game, and freshly baked bread. Traditional Tyrolean dishes are a highlight on most menus, with comforting favourites such as Tiroler Gröstl (pan-fried potatoes with meat), Käsespätzle (cheesy alpine pasta), and Speckknödel (bacon dumplings) commonly served in cosy mountain huts known as Almhütten.

If you’re looking for off-piste powder skiing, Pass Thurn in nearby Jochberg is the place. While you’re there we recommend a stop off at Bruggeralm. You’ll enjoy this traditional farmhouse serving Gröstl, Schnitzel, pancakes and ribs.

When it comes to drinks, you can enjoy regional Austrian beers, fruit-based schnapps, and excellent local wines, especially crisp whites like Grüner Veltliner. Whether you're relaxing with a coffee in a historic café or toasting the evening with après-ski cocktails in a stylish lounge, Kitzbühel has something to suit every taste.

Après ski in Kitzbuhel is all about the friendly people, classy bars, gourmet food and high end-shopping. After a day on the slopes enjoy a cocktail in Jimmy's with a spacious bar area or head to the Hahnenkamm Pavillion for a spritz. If a round of beers with live music is your scene make your way to the Londoner, a vibrant and lively bar with a great drink selection. Club Take Five is not to be missed, as one of the Worlds Finest Clubs, it is known for it's legendary reputation, resident DJs and celebrating in style.

Among the charming pedestrianised cobbled streets and historic buildings, you’ll find an array of high end fashion boutiques, luxury sportswear stores, and charming artisan shops. International designer labels sit alongside traditional Austrian brands, offering everything from the latest seasons skis and fine jewellery to handcrafted leather goods and Tyrolean wool. Local delicacies, including gourmet cheeses, schnapps, and handmade chocolates, make perfect souvenirs for those who couldn't join you on your Austrian ski holiday.

Many of the properties in Kitzbühel have their own wellness areas with swimming pools, saunas and steam baths, including the charming Hotel Kaiserhof or the modern Aktivhotel Schweizerhof.

The Aquarena Swimming & Fitness Centre in Kitzbühel is perfect space for a bit of relaxation and recreation. Located at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, the complex features a swimming area with a waterfall, a 25 metre sports pool, children's splash area and a spacious wellness area with a sauna, Turkish hammam, and massage services. Aquarena provides discounted entry for ski pass holders.

Kitzbühel has a lively calander of events throughout the winter season, ranging from legendary sporting competitions, festivals and musical events. The Hahnenkamm Races are a highlight of the ski season, attracting the best skiers in the world. The event includes the prestigious downhill and slalom races on the Streif and Ganslernhang slopes. The week is filled with thrilling competitions and lively après-ski parties throughout Kitzbühel. 

The winter season kicks of with the charming Kitzbüheler Advent, where you can enjoy strolling through the Christmas market with a range of stalls selling traditional handicrafts, Tyrolean delicacies and mulled wine. Plus the daily musical program with live performances from music groups and choirs get you in the mood for Christmas. 

Explore the history of Kitzbühel through the works of Alfons Walde at the Museum Kitzbühel, The museum delves into how the town became an icon of winter sports through the ages, often with film and sound exhibits throughout the winter season.

Things to do in Kitzbuhel

Kitzbühel offers excellent cross-country skiing with 70 km of groomed trails suitable for all skill levels. The trails traverse beautiful meadows and high Tyrolean mountains, providing a scenic and enjoyable experience. Highlights include the floodlit trail at the Kitzbühel Schwarzsee-Reith golf course, which is illuminated until 9:30pm daily.

Night skiing in Kitzbühel is a thrilling experience, with the Gaisberg slope offering extended hours on Thursdays and Fridays. The Gaisberg lift in Kirchberg stays open later from 18:30 to 21:30, allowing you to enjoy skiing the slopes under the stars. The nearby mountain huts remain open late, providing a cosy spot for refreshments between runs.

The ice rink at the sports park is open throughout the winter season, offering off slope entertainment for the whole family. You can also have a go at curling, a traditional Tyrolean sport - where you take turns in sliding stones towards a target. The rink is also home to the Kitzbühel Adler's professional ice hockey team, be sure to check out the programme for games throughout the season. 

Snowshoeing in Kitzbühel offers a serene way to explore the winter landscape. With numerous trails suitable for all levels, you can enjoy the tranquillity of snow-covered forests and panoramic mountain views. Popular routes include the Tauwiesen Snowshoe Trail for beginners and the scenic Windautal Valley. 

Nordic walking in Kitzbühel offers a fantastic way to explore the beautiful alpine landscape. With numerous trails suitable for all levels, you can enjoy scenic routes like the Malern Walk and the Lebenberg Trail. These paths take you through picturesque meadows, forests, and around serene ponds, providing a peaceful and invigorating experience.
