The Försterhaus zum Kramerwirt is an annex building to the main Alpenhotel Kramerwirt (around 50 metres away) and is hosted by the fantastically welcoming Hans-Jörg and Marieka Kröll. It's the perfect place if you're looking for great value for money, offering comfortable, no-frills accommodation with excellent quality half board included - rooms are simply furnished and comfortable.

It's also conveniently located above the popular Billa supermarket - early deliveries may cause some light noise but we think this is a perfect opportunity to grab some rolls or snacks for a cheap and cheerful lunch up the mountain.

Central location

Heading out walking couldn't be easier with lots of trails starting nearby and the train and bus station are just 300 metres down the road, if you want to explore further into the valleys. Getting up the mountain is easy too with the Penkenbahn lift just over five minutes' walk away.

Delicious, home-cooked food

Breakfast and evening meals are enjoyed in the main hotel building, and the kitchen is where the magic happens - you'll be delighted with traditional homemade food, themed buffets and sweet treats here - the service is great too.

Walking holidays in Mayrhofen

Who doesn’t love a walk with a purpose? From the ‘Art River’ walk past local sculptures, to the Brandberg dairy farm loop - with a stop-off to try its local cheese - and the Ahorn Leisure Trail with its viewing platforms (a route suitable for buggies), there’s no shortage of themed walks around Mayrhofen. For peace and quiet, best head to the Stilluptal Valley, famous for its many waterfalls and striking blue reservoir. And, for keen hikers, the vast walking area of the Zillertal has plenty to keep you coming back for more walking holidays for years to come - what's around the next corner?

Indulge in the Austrian mountain huts

Whether hard-core hiking, low-key biking or just heading out to enjoy the view, most people out on the mountain will probably have the same goal: to end up at a Tyrolean Mountain hut to refuel. There are more than enough of them around, all serving local dishes on sun-drenched terraces. The Olpererhütte is a deservedly popular spot for its views over the Schlegeis reservoir and south-facing position, for soaking up the sun all-day long.

Active holidays in Mayrhofen

The Zillertal Activcard is an all-in-one ticket to an active summer holiday, allowing one cable card trip a day (there are 10 in the region) to give easy access to many of the region’s walking trails, entry to all six outdoor swimming pools in the valley, free travel on most public transport and discounts on various activities around the area.

Biking in the Zillertal

With 1,300 kilometres of routes, the Zillertal is heaven for biking, whether on gravel, bumpy single-track trails or quiet mountain roads. The Penken Mountain’s FunSportStation is made for young thrill-seekers. There’s a bike park with mini electric motorcycles to play around on. If the children are into scooters, here’s where you can step it up a level by trying out the ‘mountain scooter’ that handles trickier terrain more like a mountain bike. The whole family can head out onto the trails on mountain scooters (once everyone’s got to grips with it).

The Zillertalbahn Steam Train

This little steam train chugs through the Zillertal Valley and is fun for the whole family. There’s an open-top carriage, a beer carriage and dining car, the crystal wagon (encrusted with Swarovski crystals, because why not?) and the kids’ carriage where little ones can hang out.
