Itinerary

Day 1: Flying to Keflavik Airport and hop on the FlyBus shuttle to the city of Reykjavík. Enjoy a day in Reykjavík at your own leisure. You will meet your Guide on day 2.

Day 2: Today you will start your tour by travelling straight to the Golden Circle. Here you will be able to visit the three most famous natural wonders that Iceland has to offer, Gullfoss, Geyser hot spring area and Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park. These three equally stunning and unique locations will teach a lot about the geology and history of this area. Have your cameras at the ready when at the Geyser geothermal area as the Strokkur geyser erupts every 6 – 10 minutes. The afternoon of travelling will be broken up by stops to the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss spectacular waterfalls and then to see some puffins, with black-sand beaches in view, at the Dyrholaey nature reserve.

Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel in Vik the drive along the Ring Road continues. This morning you will travel across the Eldhraun which is the largest single lava flow field in the world. The town of Kirkjubaejarklaustur awaits your visit until continuing onto the Skeidararsandur sands to the glistening glacier of Skaftafell. This is not the last glacier of the day, as the next sight is Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and Europe's largest glacier of Vatnajokull. The seacoast village of Hofn is the final destination for the night.

Day 4: There will be incredible changes in scenery as you travel from the Almannaskard pass, from glacial landscapes to fjords and coastline. Experiencing the vast mountains of the East Icelandic Fjords and passing through many traditional and enchanting villages until you reach Egilsstadir, located on the banks of river Lagarfljót.

Day 5: On your journey to Lake Myvatn there will be a stop at Europe’s most powerful waterfall called Dettifoss, dropping into the Glacier River. Namaskard pass has the diversity of boiling mud pools and the vibrant red terrain of this geothermal area. Reaching Lake Myvatn you will have the rest of the day to explore the natural beauty that this area boasts, including the large amount of duck species.

Day 6: To start your day you will explore the Dimmuborgir lava formations, followed by the spectacular Godafoss waterfall. Moving on to Akureyri, which is known as the ‘capital’ of Northern Iceland, you will have time to look around this colourfully enchanting town but make sure you take in the view of the Eyjafjordur Fjord. From here the drive to the final destination of the day, Siglufjordur, is extremely beautiful it is hard to not look out the window.

Day 7: After a morning visit to the award- winning Herring-Era Museum, you will be able to sit back and admire the marvellous mountains and changing landscape to the historical town of Hofsos, which is located perfectly on the ocean front. The next stop on the tour will be at Skagafjordur, one of the best places for horse breeding and historical preservation. Then explore one of the country’s most historical villages of Holar. You will go on to visit a local farm where you will get an engaging introduction to the unique Icelandic horse breed. Travelling on to Borgarnes, cross the Holtavorduheidi plateau to reach this picturesque town, where you will be staying for the night.

Day 8: The morning will be spent at the most powerful thermal spring in the world, Deildartunguhver. Stop to appreciate the Hraunfossar waterfalls where the water runs down from steaming lava fields, of around 900 meters wide, and flows into the Hvitá glacier river. Drive along the Hvalfjordur fjord to visit Lake Thingvallavatn that is located in the beautiful UNESCO heritage site of Thingvellir National Park, and is the largest lake in Iceland.
