Day 1: Fly to Keflavik Airport and hop on the FlyBus shuttle to the city of Reykjavík. Enjoy a day exploring the capital city of Reykjavík at your own leisure and even relax in the renowned Blue Lagoon (pre-book). You will meet your Guide on day 2.
Day 2: The escorted tour will start today with a visit to the Lava Centre. Teaching you about the volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over the millions of years, all through its interactive and high- tech exhibition. The next stop will be at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall which is truly breath-taking-you can even walk behind the waterfall. The journey to Landeyjahofn harbour is beautiful over the south coast farmlands. Here there will be a 30 minute ferry to arrive at Heimaey Island, the largest island of the Westman Islands. You will visit the picturesque but windy Storhofdi Point, some call this the windiest point in the whole of Iceland! If you are travelling between mid- May through to the beginning of August it is a great area to spot puffins! You will walk up to a volcanic crater which erupted over three decades ago, and as you walk around Heimaey Island the lava flows are still visible throughout the town.
Day 3: After breakfast at your hotel you will depart from the Westman Islands and carry on exploring the south of Iceland. The next stop will be one of Iceland’s biggest waterfalls, Skógafoss, and along the way there will be many glacial rivers to spot. The powerful waves onto the infamous black sand lava beach of Reynisfjara is the next stop. The shore being lined by basalt columns from the ocean is really a fascinating sight to see.
Day 4: Today will be spent in the Vatnajokull National Park where there are many of Iceland’s wonders to tick off the list. These include Eldraun (‘Fire Lava’) which is the largest lava flow in the world covering 565 square kilometres. Then Kirkjubaejarklaustur which is a small town and former 12th century Catholic convent, and finally the glimmering Skaftafell Glacier. Continuing over to the Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon where icebergs have broken off and can be spotted floating around in the sea.
Day 5: The Geysir thermal spring will be the first attraction of the day, a time to watch the Strokkur eruption which takes place every few minutes. Gullfoss (‘Golden Falls’) is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland and where the water falls down a canyon into the Hvitá River. The final stop is Thingvellir National Park which is both a historical site and national park. You would have completed the famous Golden Circle of natural attractions, before going back to Reykjavik for the evening.
Day 6: Today you will have the day to explore the city until making your way to the airport.
