In the heart of Riva's historic centre and amongst the brightly coloured buildings reminiscent of the Cinque Terre is the fabulous Hotel Europa. The hotel's vibrant periwinkle exterior stands out even with the surrounding buildings of peach and yellow hues and offers unrivalled views of the harbour front and direct access to the town. Maintaining a sense of tranquility even with its location, the decor of the Europa is simple yet stylish. Hues of gold, tan and cream are used throughout the spacious bedrooms creating a peaceful and relaxing aesthetic. The restaurant in which evening dinners are served has stunning panoramic views of the harbour with floor to ceiling windows. The exquisite views combined with the twinkle of fairy lights and candles creates a truly romantic atmosphere and the fabulous gastronomy on offer is not to be missed. The chefs at Europa pride themselves on their use of local ingredients including infused olive oils, fish platters and antipasti bought from the market that very morning.
Atop the roof of the Europa is a glorious haven of relaxation in the form of their small, heated pool and sun terrace. Sun loungers and parasols are at your disposal and this makes the perfect spot to spend a sunny afternoon taking in the sunshine over the lake with the mountains beyond. There is also a Turkish bath which is the ideal treat for any weary limbs after a day of exploring the lakefront and beyond.
Riva itself is a spectacular town with a lot to offer and being at the northernmost point of the lake is home to a variety of water sports. The mountainous terrain brings with it a refreshing but sometimes powerful alpine wind creating the perfect conditions for the likes of kite surfing, sailing and paddle boarding with the latter being an excellent 'outside-the-box' means of taking in the scenery. There are also some wonderful walking trails available for all abilities as the town itself is on a flat whilst the likes of Monte Brione make for an incredibly rewarding challenge for avid ramblers. There is also a 4km walk on the Bisatte-Tempesta path which is suspended over the mountainside and upon arriving in Tempesta (shuttles do run if the walk proves difficult) and gorgeous adventure and nature park awaits you.
Exploring other resorts on the lake is easy with the ferry port of Riva just a few steps away from the hotel. From here you can purchase tickets to travel all over whether you want to spend the day taste testing every gelato shop in Limone, climbing the castle steps in Malcesine or taking in the incredible turquoise waters of Peschiera.
