Things to see and do in Selva
Selva is directly below the Sella Massif. You can expect amazing scenery from this unique mountain range and the Gardena Valley. Most people head for the mountains to explore the endless paths and hiking trails. Rent an e-bike to take the strain off the uphill climbs or jump on a lift for a picturesque ride up to the higher peaks. However you get to the top, expect panoramic views that will blow you away.
Back in resort you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. Pop along the road to Ortisei to check out the markets. The town’s known for its traditional wood carvings.
Food & drink
Whether you’re after an espresso, crisp glass of local wine or a cocktail, there's plenty of great places to choose from, both in resort and on the mountain. The food won’t disappoint either. The typical mountain fare has more Austro-Hungarian influences than it does Italian. Nothing beats rich goulash with dumplings followed by homemade apple strudel after a day exploring the mountains. Although Italian food lovers needn’t worry, it’s easy to stumble upon restaurants serving delicious pizzas, stone baked to perfection.
Activities
Mountain biking in the area is second to none. Selva’s Trail Arena has a number of different runs for all abilities. Experienced riders should head for the freeride trails through the forest and for those after something more gentle the winding routes on the family line are just as fun. Best of all the lifts take you to the top of the runs, so all you need to do is enjoy the ride down.
One of the best things in Selva is the Active programme. It includes Nordic walking tasters, rock climbing for beginners, mountain biking, visits to local stables, cookery lessons and yoga. Most of these activities are free.
