Italy, Lake Como
Stretching across the west lake promenade on Lake Como, Tremezzo borders on the resorts of Lenno and Menaggio. Tremezzo is one of Lake Como’s quieter treasures, with a small but beautiful medieval sector of the town with winding cobbled streets and grand 18th and 19th century houses and hotels lined up along the promenade. Nestled under the watchful gaze of Mount Crocione with great views across the lake towards Bellagio, the area of Tremezzo is also known as the Azalea Riviera because of the masses of stunning azaleas and rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias that bring the whole place to life with their vibrant and multicoloured blossoms.
Tremezzo is extremely well linked to other towns across Lake Como with efficient ferry and bus services going to and from your home base.
Sagra de San Giovanni
In the last weekend of June, the Sagra de San Giovanni festival is a festival that celebrates the rich and vibrant heritage of Lake Como. This historic event involves a weekend of folk, art and food from the world of old Italy. The focal point of the festival occurs in the evening after the sun has set when a hundreds of floating lamps are pitched onto Lake Como alongside a fabulous firework display.
If you didn’t already recognise the big clue in the name of the festival, the Concorso D’Eleganza Festival is perhaps one of the most luxurious and prestigious car festivals in the world. Taking place in the latter half of May, the event takes place at the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este in Cernobbio on the southern shores of the lake. A truly glamorous experience, you can see a variety of historical and unique cars from 1920 to 1980, and some of the more modern one-off multimillion pound wonders that look right at home on the winding roads of northern Italy.
Como Summer Festival
The Lake Como summer music festival takes place across numerous venues on Lake Como during the summer, including villas and gardens overlooking the water, castles, and some Brianza theatres. The festival celebrates all genres of music, from the classical scores that echo the aristocratic past of the region, through to modern numbers with jazz and pop music in the evenings.
Flower, art and flavour Festival
Taking place in Mennagio on the 21st-22nd May 2016, the flower, art and flavour festival is exactly what is says on the tin. The town of Mennagio comes to life with food markets, music in every single available corner of every street, art and beautiful spring flower decorations.
