The authentic Neuhaus Zillertal Resort has been the pride of Mayrhofen since 1649, you can discover traces of history here and homely traditions. Set at the bottom of the high street it comprises two inter-connecting buildings, the St Joseph and the Neuhaus wing. The hotel is overlooked by the Ziller Mountains, and you can enjoy extended valley views from the romantic gardens. Relax on the cuddly benches at the lily pond, the large sunbathing lawn next to the heated outdoor pool or the ambient indoor pool and spa area. The gardens also have a lovely natural lake to enjoy,

The facilities here cater for all ages. Children will enjoy the outdoor playground, in-house bowling alley, table tennis and billiard table. While adults can unwind in the natural themed spa with rock style showers, sizeable whirlpool, ambient sauna, steam room and small fitness room. During the day enjoy a drink in the movie bar. This lively, bustling village is one of the most popular summer resorts in the Tyrol, offering an unrivalled range of activities, excursions and events throughout the summer. Mayrhofen lies 630m above sea level in the Upper Zillertal (Ziller Valley) through which the River Ziller runs. It's surrounded by three main mountain ranges, the Kitzbühel Alps to the east, the Tux Alps to the west and the Zillertal Alps to the south. An old-fashioned steam locomotive is a popular way to explore the valley, and in the evenings it is wonderful to sit outside whilst Mayrhofen comes alive with regular live music and traditional festivals.

The traditional farming links are still very strong in Mayrhofen and the surrounding villages - you'll often see many old-fashioned farming practices as you explore the local area. In the second half of the 19th Century, paths and mountain huts were built as hiking became popular. The reason that the area is so popular in the summer, is that it has over 1,400km of paths for hiking, and other popular activities including rafting, climbing, paragliding and mountain biking. The ‘Zillertal Natur’ runs an excellent programme of free guided walks in the summer - offering extensive hiking opportunities for all levels.

Krimml Waterfalls from £26 per person (half day)

Lake Achensee & Rattenberg (full day)

Travel along the Inn Valley to Tyrol’s largest lake. Perhaps take a trip on the popular steam train or enjoy a scenic boat trip (optional). Also visiting Rattenberg, famous for its Crystal glass production.

Salzburg (full day)

Visit Mozart’s birthplace, the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the medieval Old Town and the famous Getreidegasse shopping street. An optional walking tour brings the history of this beautiful city to life.

Zillertal Natur Park runs an extensive programme of daily guided walks to different areas all over the Ziller Valley. The programme is from approx €6 per walk (registration required) or free at selected hotels (see individual hotel pages).

Mayrhofen is surrounded by four valleys and an incredible 1700 kilometres of walking paths across the Zillertall, ranging from gentle trails through meadows to Schwendau and along the river to Zell am Ziller, to high altitude treks into different valleys. At the end of the valley is Hintertux Glacier with various trails heading up to the top and all year round skiing available.

The Zimmereben walk involves a hike up to the Zimmereben hut where you can take in spectacular views of Mayrhofen and enjoy coffee, cake, and local schnapps.
