La Rosière

An attractive, friendly and snow-sure resort with superb views

  • Resort altitude of 1,850 metres
  • Over 150 kilometres of slopes
  • 8 green runs, 27 blue runs, 38 red runs and 18 black runs

Set high above the picturesque Upper Tarentaise valley, La Rosière is a brilliantly well thought out resort. Big enough to have all the facilities any skier could wish for, but also small enough to be known as one of the Alps’ friendliest resorts with beautiful wood and stone chalets, this resort is a perfect choice for couples and families wanting to spend some quality time together in a picturesque setting.

Skiing and snowboarding in La Rosière

Due to it's high altitude, the La Rosière-Espace San Bernardo ski area has record levels of snowfall with it's ski season starting in December and running until the end of April. Its sunny, wide open slopes are snow-sure with the main lifts and pistes all radiating out directly from the centre of resort. Within the ski area, you'll find there is a mix of gentle blue runs, cruisy reds and tough blacks plus some renowned off-piste areas - so you're really spoilt for choice. The ski resort also caters for boarders, with a lot of free-riding and a snow park well set up for beginners and intermediates. New for this winter season the Dahu draglift has been updated to a four seater chairlift, this gives beginners easier access to two green slopes - Dahu and Cabri, and two blue slopes - Gelinotte and Marmottons. Skiers can also join onto the Plan du Repos chairlift and access the wider San Bernardo area.

Where to stay in La Rosière

Beginners skiing and snowboarding in La Rosière

Learning to ski is easy in La Rosière due to the number of green and blue slopes across the ski area. There are good nursery slopes beside the main lifts, blue slopes close by for easy progression and the wide gentle pistes provide a good playground to learn on. There ski schools in La Rosière also offer private and group lessons in a friendly and relaxed environment so learning can be done at your own pace.

Intermediates skiing and snowboarding in La Rosière

This resort is really well suited to intermediates, with plenty of hugely enjoyable blue and red pistes as well as some lovely tree-lined runs dropping below the resort. Keen skiers will also enjoy the more varied terrain on the Italian side. Modern and comfortable chairlifts are found throughout the ski area meaning everything is well connected and you can reach the summit of the Fort - here you'll find unbeatable views of Mont Blanc.

Advanced skiing and snowboarding in La Rosière

Advanced skiers and boarders won't be disappointed as there are some good black runs, especially down to La Thuile and a lot of safe off-piste between the runs. There is a new black piste "Etagne" on the Mont Valaisan sector, this run has a 74% angled wall so it'll definitely be a leg burner.

Off piste and snow parks in La Rosière

The wide open slopes are good for free-riding and the terrain park above the village and boardercross provide plenty to entertain keen boarders. There is also a snow park to take advantage of, "Poletta Snowpark", with interlinking lines that increase in difficulty so you can master your tricks and grabs. If you are looking for a challenge, there is a freeride area in the Mont-Valaisan area with an ungroomed black slope, located at the top of the Les Moulins chairlift offering a 425m drop - hiring a local guide is the best way to explore these slopes and can be arranged through the resort team.

Things To Do

Things to do in La Rosière

Restaurants, food and drink

There are great places to stop for some food and a drink within the resort village and on the slopes. Try sampling some local specialities and treat yourself to a meal out or a simple ski refuel snack. Some of our favourite locations include the snack bar 'Du Relais Du Petit Saint-Bernard'. Located at the bottom of the slopes, this bar offers some spectacular views of Mont Pourri and is a great place to stop for a quick refreshment or some light bites. l'Alpagio in Hotel Alparena is a stylish, modern restaurant with a carved wooden bar and impressive wine cellar, serving a wide range of foods from slow cooked meats, raclette and fish - enjoy your food on the terrace with great views of the slopes and village.

It is also worth us mentioning that La Rosière is considered one of the quieter après ski resorts in the Alps and is a perfect option for those looking for a more peaceful and relaxing post-ski apéritif.

Spas and relaxation

Many of the hotels across resort have fantastic spa and wellness facilities that are included in your holiday package. The spa located in Hotel Alparena is over 1000m² and has services available specifically for your wellbeing including a swimming pool and Japanese bath that have great views of peaks. The spa found in Hotel Ily is also a fantastic choice with three cabins that are exclusive for beauty treatments that use natural and organic ingredients. You can find more on each specific hotel and residences' spa facilities on the individual accommodation pages.

Shopping

The shopping in La Rosière is on the smaller side, but definitely stays up to date with the trends. Across resort you'll find a range of gift shops, sports shops, 2 supermarkets and some clothes shops. You'll be able to take a piece of La Rosière home with you as many of the gift shops sell clothes and novelty items like keyrings, postcards, toys, and jewellery. You can also expand your snow sports wardrobe and treat yourself to something new with the many Intersport and Skiset shops dotted around the village - if you really want to splash the cash you can even treat yourself to some new snow equipment too.

Panoramic Photospot

Head up the Fort chairlift and walk along the metal walk way with incredible views of the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass and the surrounding mountain peaks.

Paragliding

Appreciate the peaks of Mont Blanc from above and discover one of the Alpes most exhilarating terrains - all whilst experiencing an adrenaline rush you'll never forget. You'll be accompanied by a qualified instructor who will show you the summits for some truly panoramic views.

Ice skating and ice hockey

The Too'n Ice Glisse ice rink offers up to 360m² for you to slip and slide on a pair of ice skates. The rink is open Sunday-Friday and there are ice skating lessons available on Tuesdays if it's your first time putting on a pair of skates. If you're feeling more competitive, on Thursday's you'll find ice hockey lessons - which are free with paid admission to the ice rink - and the rink even has bleachers, a sound system and light effects to make it all the more fun.

Heli-skiing

The perfect pair of scenery and slopes, heli-skiing is a fantastic way to get a personal tour of the ski area before you test it out. Assisted by a guide, with the ability to go as a group of 4, you'll be able to enjoy the breath taking views of Mont Blanc and it's surrounding peaks before skiing or snowboarding down untouched landscapes of La Thuile, which is located in Italy - so you'll have the experience of skiing in two countries!

Torchlit descents

Every Monday night, ESF ski school offers a torchlight descent down the mountain. You can ride your way down the slopes with a specially manufactured torch, that is also safe for children, and light up the night sky. There'll also be time for mulled wine and hot chocolate at the end of the evening - during the school holidays they even have fireworks.

Snow kiting

La Rosière is a top destination if you'd like to try snow kiting as the wind and snow conditions are perfect for beginners, not to mention the range of top quality kite schools to choose from across resort. The winds come through the valley from the Tarentaise et d'Aoste, making La Rosière's snow kiting area one of the best in France.

Giant igloo

At the top of the Eucherts chairlift you can find the coolest place to be, the giant 130m2 igloo. Enjoy a drink, admire the ice sculptures or perhaps treat yourself to a cheese fondue. Accessible by foot and skis.

Travel Information

Flights depart Saturdays

Transfer time

  • Geneva airport: approx. 3 hours by coach
  • Chambery airport: approx. 2 hours by coach

Customers that're booking a LGW flight, we highly recommend that you choose the morning flight for La Rosiere due to the traffic light system in the Tarentaise Valley. This system controls and slows down the traffic, stopping traffic sitting in dangerous places, like tunnels, where rocks can fall and to make snow clearing easier when it is snowing. This can impact your transfer time, meaning you may arrive into resort later and leaving for the airport earlier.

The transfer may not stop directly outside your property, there may be a 500m walk due to the location of the property not being accessible by coach.

Private transfers and self drive are available.

Good to know

  • Sunny, snow-sure resort
  • Shorter transfers from Chambéry airport
  • Two nation skiing into La Thuile in Italy
