Hotel Mominoki

  • Japan, Hakuba

Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

The Hotel Mominoki is a popular choice in Hakuba. Nestled on the outskirts of the Wadano district and a very short bus ride to the Happo One gondola, views of the slopes can also be spotted amongst the forest. Traditional in style the interior has a ski lodge feel with wooden sculptures and skis furnishing the walls. The ski hire shop is located just opposite the hotel and the local bus service also stops just outside. A bar (with happy hours) is available inside the hotel with a large fireplace to sit alongside and there are also a few smaller establishments located nearby. The communal onsen is the real relaxation factor in this hotel with attractive indoor and outdoor baths to soothe those muscles.

Hakuba Valley offers 10 diverse ski areas across one lift pass and is a great introduction to any skier looking to hit the mythical ‘japow’ so many have heard whispers of. Put on the map after the 1998 Nagano Olympics the Japanese Alps provide abundant snow falls and powder conditions that will make you the envy of your European skier counterparts. Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities will enjoy the slopes on offer and whilst the lift system isn’t modern or speedy (contradictory to pre-conceived ideas of modern Japan), the benefits of glorious views, playful terrain and incredible snow allow skiers to overlook these minor offences.

Our accommodation is located in the main resort of Happo One with easy bus links to all neighbouring resorts and with visitors from both New Zealand and Australia there is also a Western influence which means restaurant choice is diverse and English is spoken in most establishments.

Our top tips; if fresh snowfall is forecast, head to Cortina for the ultimate in expert terrain and off piste skiing, Tsugaike offers the best lift system and for tree lined skiing head to Hakuba 47 (the snow park is also great)!

We like to keep things simple, this means your lift pass is included in the price!
