Sightseeing in Slovenia

Slovenia is full of natural beauty, peaceful mountain towns and charming historic sights. From emerald rivers to wooden boardwalks and hilltop chapels, this country feels like it was made for walking and exploring. Here are some of the best Slovenia tourist attractions to add to your list.
Sightseeing in Lake Bled

Lake Bled is one of Slovenia’s most iconic sights, a fairytale lake with a tiny island at its centre. The island is topped with a beautiful church and a bell tower that promises to grant your wishes if you ring it three times.
The traditional Pletna boat ride to the island is part of the fun, with boats departing regularly throughout the day.
Once on the island, you can visit the charming Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, sip coffee at the little café and browse souvenirs and artwork.
Don’t miss Bled Castle either. Perched high on a cliff, it offers spectacular views of the lake and mountains.
Inside, you’ll find fascinating exhibits and hands-on activities like wine bottling or traditional printmaking. A peaceful walk through the nearby Višce forest makes a perfect ending.
Vintgar Gorge

A short drive away from Bled, Vintgar Gorge is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature. This 1.6km trail winds along wooden walkways over rushing rapids, waterfalls and pools, making for an easy and incredibly scenic stroll. Entry costs around €15 for adults and it’s well worth it.
The Poglej Church and beekeeping

Not quite what it sounds like, the Poglej Church is actually a glacial-origin cave, and a dream spot for hikers and climbers. It’s the gateway to the Rikli Trail and delivers incredible views.
Round off your day by discovering the art of Slovenian beekeeping. The painted beehive panels are colourful and full of cultural stories, and the honey is every bit as delicious as you’d expect.
Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle

Available on our walking holidays to Slovenia, this full-day guided excursion includes transport, a guide and entrance fees. Start by riding the world-famous cave-train through Postojna Cave, one of the largest cave systems in the world. Afterwards, step into history at Predjama Castle, built dramatically into the cliff face. It’s a fascinating mix of nature and heritage in one unforgettable day.

Sightseeing in Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora is perfect for those who love a mountain backdrop. From the charming town centre, scenic roads lead you deep into alpine beauty.
Waterfalls and walks

The Martuljek Falls (Martuljški slapovi) are a highlight here, with an upper and lower waterfall both formed by the river Martuljek. The forest trail leading to them makes the walk a delight, with mountain views every step of the way.
Taste of Slovenia: Pre-bookable excursion
Travel through rolling countryside and stop in a riverside village for a peaceful boat cruise. Continue on to the Goriška Brda wine region, where vineyards spread across gentle hills.
Enjoy a traditional lunch at a family-run restaurant, explore one of Slovenia’s largest wine cellars in Dobrovo, and taste local wines in a guided session. Transport, lunch and tastings are all included.

Sightseeing in Bovec and the Soča Valley

Bovec is a small alpine town with a big personality. Tucked between the Julian Alps and the turquoise Soča River, it’s a hub for adventure, nature and history.
Chasing waterfalls

Here you’re spoiled for choice. Slap Boka is the largest and easy to spot right from the main road. Slap Virje is just a short walk or cycle from the centre, with crystal-clear pools perfect for a summer dip. For those up for more of a hike, Slap Parabola and Slap Katedrala reward you with quiet forest scenery and crowd-free views.
Explore Bovec town

Although small, Bovec has a lot to offer. Grab a snack and head to Thirsty River Brewing Bar for a refreshing self-brewed beer. You can even bring your own street food along. The square is also home to a little museum dedicated to local history and culture, a great option for a rainy afternoon.
The Soča River

One of Europe’s most beautiful rivers, the Soča is famous for its dazzling turquoise colour. It flows from the Trenta Valley, through Bovec and Kobarid, before crossing into Italy where it becomes the Isonzo.
If you’re looking for adventure, try kayaking or rafting. If you’d prefer to stay dry, the riverside trails offer peaceful walking with stunning views.
Trenta Valley

For more walking, the unspoilt Trenta Valley in Triglav National Park is waiting. You’ll find alpine trails, the source of the Soča River, a botanical garden, the Velika Korita Gorge and the Zapotok waterfall. It’s as picturesque as it sounds.
Visit a local cheesemaker
Travelling through Slovenia means sampling its food, and in Bovec that often means cheese. Local family dairies make a distinctive sheep’s milk cheese, shaped by the mountain pastures. Knock on a farm shop door and you might find yourself invited in to taste and buy direct from the farmer. It’s a hidden gem of an experience.
