Beginner skiing in Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen enjoys an excellent reputation for its ski tuition and the SMT ski school will guide beginners on the easy nursery slopes of the Penken. Due to the position of the slopes, a lift pass is essential for all skiers including beginners.

Intermediate skiing in Mayrhofen

Skiers who enjoy wide open blue and red runs will revel in the abundance of well prepared, long runs and the modern lift system suiting all levels of intermediates.

Advanced skiing in Mayrhofen

There is a wide variety of steep red and black runs in the Mayrhofen area and if you’re feeling adventurous try the ‘Hari Kiri’, the steepest prepared slope in Austria with its 78% gradient. There is also plenty of accessible off-piste.

The Penken offers one of the best fun parks in Europe with a half-pipe, beginner and pro line kickers, rails, boxes and chill out area. Mayrhofen also offers, long open cruisy blues and red runs for beginners and intermediates.

Superski Pass

The Zillertal Superski Pass covers four ski areas, including Hochzillertal-Hochfügen-Spieljoch, Zillertal Arena, Mayrhofner Bergbahnen and Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000. It includes 548km of pistes and 180 lifts as well as the glacier at Hintertux, all connected by a free bus or train.

Local lift pass

The local Mayrhofen pass is available to purchase locally. This covers 142 kilometres of well groomed slopes across the Penken and Ahorn ski areas.

If you’re looking for a rustic traditional village with modern lifts and access to the largest ski area in Austria, then Mayrhofen is the place for you. There is a long stretch of bars, restaurants and shops so you will find plenty to explore.

On the famous Zillertal Ski Area you’ll have 548km of varied pistes. Be sure to explore Hintertux glacier, we can’t get enough of the powder skiing and sweeping views. You’re above the clouds here meaning you’ll avoid any poor weather further down the mountain. You can also try Austria’s steepest run at a 78% gradient, the Hara Kiri. There is plenty for beginners too, with learning areas, quality teaching and cruisy blue runs.

Mayrhofen is a heavyweight resort for skiers, boarders and freestylers. If you’re a freestyler you won’t want to miss a chance to practice your tricks one of Europe’s largest snow parks, the Penken park. You’ll find it on the sunny side of the Hornberg mountain – split into six separate areas, it even has its own chairlift.

Mayrhofen’s food scene is as inviting and diverse as the landscape itself. Alpine huts offer hearty Tyrolean classics like schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn, and Tiroler Gröstl, while down in the village, you’ll find everything from pizzerias and steakhouses to cosy cafes and upscale restaurants.

GoldKind on the high street offers a relaxed stylish atmosphere, with great choices for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Great for brunch, lunch and dinner this international menu has something for everyone.

Perauer is a Mayrhofen institution and has been serving Austrian classics in the valley for 300 years. Pioneers of farm to table, you can really taste passion in this menu. With their own in house butcher this is a meat eaters mecca.

Edelweiss is a relaxed dining experience with an excellent family friendly menu, offering pizzas, burgers Austrian classics and much more.

Café Kostner serves beautiful cakes and pastries with deliciously dark and rich coffee. Coffee and cake is a way of life in Austria and Café Kostner is a great place to watch Mayrhofen life pass by. Take away options are a great option for chairlift snacks on the Penken. 

Pat’s Pizza & Prosecco is right in the heart of the main street next to the Penkenbahn lift station. This pizzeria is perfect for a sit down meal or a takeaway option. Dare you try the Hari Kiri pizza? Mayrhofen’s spiciest pizza can bring a tear to the eye of the biggest chilli connoisseur.

Before heading down the mountain why not enjoy a drink inside the igloo village – all ages love it here. On your way down you won’t be able to resist a stop off at the lively Pilzbar – you’ll hear the party a mile off.  

Once your back in town the fun continues, whether it’s a relaxed cocktail, friendly pub or wild party, Mayrhofen has you covered. The night usually begins in the Ice Bar and ends in the early hours at Brück'n Stadl. You’ll quickly find out why Austrian après ski is famous. For a more laid back spot, enjoy watching live sports events and a beer at the English-Irish-Austrian Scotland Yard pub.

If you can’t hold out until dinner we recommend Gasser deli. Serving traditional meats, it is the perfect pit stop before après ski.

Fully Metal Mayrhofen

The ultimate metal festival in the Zillertal Alps. Full Metal Mayrhofen brings together music fans from all over the world from 23 - 28 March 2026. Experience top acts such as Hämatom, Clawfinger and Faun, surrounded by breath taking winter sports facilities.

Altitude Comedy Festival

Awarded overseas festival of the year in 2023, Altitude takes place in Mayrhofen from 30 March - 3 April 2026. Over five days, three shows nightly entertain in après ski bars, gala venues, and late‑night havens. Expect stand-up, improv, cable‑car gigs and spectacular mountain views. It’s Europe’s award‑winning “funniest show on snow.” 

Snowbombing

Snowbombing in Mayrhofen is a unique blend of winter sports and music festival, held from 7 - 12 April 2026. It features world-class DJs and live acts performing in stunning alpine settings, from mountain peaks to valley bars. Highlights include thrilling slopes, vibrant après-ski parties, and diverse accommodation options. Snowbombing offers an unforgettable experience, combining the excitement of skiing with the energy of a music festival.

Along the pretty highstreet you can find plenty of souviner shops, stores selling the latest season outdoor wear and rental shops. There's also various supermarkets like Spar, Billa, and MPreis where you can pick up everyday essentials.
