This stylish village of Courmayeur is nestled beneath the Mont Blanc, known for being a favourite with fashionable Italians as well as for gastronomic delights, with some of the best restaurants in the Alps to be found both on and off the mountain. The ski area, reached by one of Europe's largest cable-cars offers spectacular scenery and varied skiing on predominantly red runs, through the trees and in the open. Competent skiers who enjoy off-piste can tackle the famous 22km Vallée Blanche from the top of the new Monte Bianco Skyway down to Chamonix. In Courmayeur's village, the narrow cobbled streets hide a selection of smart shops, welcoming bars and some great restaurants. Try Café Roma at the end of the day for aperitifs and a complimentary buffet.
