Lakes & Mountains holidays in Champoluc

Classic Italian walking, with spectacular Monte Rosa scenery

Champoluc is located in a large, sunny valley deep in the glorious mountains of Monte Rosa overlooked by the stunning glacier at the far end of the valley. Champoluc is part of the Ayas valley which is studded with dramatic 4,000m peaks, crowned by the Monte Rosa Mountain and also the dramatic Matterhorn. Linked to the neighbouring valleys of Gressoney & Alagna, Champoluc is over 1,500m above sea level. A pretty village that offers a range of local intimate bars and restaurants. The region has over 200kms of marked walks for all levels of walkers, as well as a host of historical churches, settlements and castles to visit. One of the highlights of your holiday in Champoluc is the locally produced regional food and wine, best enjoyed on the terrace of one of the mountain huts overlooking some of the most amazing views seen in the Italian Alps.

Outstanding Walks

The Monte Rosa region offers wonderful walks at every level from gently scenic strolls to longer, more challenging all-day hikes passing through unspoilt miles of sensational scenery. Highlights include the picturesque ‘Valley of the Cime Bianche’, and the glacial lakes ‘Lago Perrin and Lago Blu’, where the deep blue waters of the lakes have been created by the melting waters from the glacier.

Mascognaz & Frantze | Easy | Approx 3 hrs | The Mascognaz trail follows the Mascognaz River bank, through pretty pastures until you get to the small village of Mascognaz. After a short stop and taking a drink from the fresh water fountain in the Piazza you’re ready for the next path the ‘Crest’ trail. Passing through a stunning forest and arriving at a ‘Rascard Frantze’ an old mountain house, built in the ‘Walser’ style used in many villages in the region. A great walk to get to know the area.

The Blue Lake | Moderate | Approx 6 hrs | Lago Blu lake sits at the bottom of the Monte Rosa Mountain and holds glacial water that has a unique deep blue hew. The quickest way to get to this lake is by starting at the village of Saint Jacques walking up through the hills passing through ‘Fiery’ a small mountain village. Just above Fiery you will face the impressive Monte Rosa Mountain in all its glory and within 30 minutes you will arrive at the fascinating ‘Lago Blu’.

Please note: Walks are available on a first come first served basis and also subject to weather conditions. Please register with your Rep on arrival.
