The Monte Rosa region offers wonderful walks at every level from gently scenic strolls to longer, more challenging all-day hikes passing through unspoilt miles of sensational scenery. Highlights include the picturesque ‘Valley of the Cime Bianche’, and the glacial lakes ‘Lago Perrin and Lago Blu’, where the deep blue waters of the lakes have been created by the melting waters from the glacier.
Mascognaz & Frantze | Easy | Approx 3 hrs | The Mascognaz trail follows the Mascognaz River bank, through pretty pastures until you get to the small village of Mascognaz. After a short stop and taking a drink from the fresh water fountain in the Piazza you’re ready for the next path the ‘Crest’ trail. Passing through a stunning forest and arriving at a ‘Rascard Frantze’ an old mountain house, built in the ‘Walser’ style used in many villages in the region. A great walk to get to know the area.
The Blue Lake | Moderate | Approx 6 hrs | Lago Blu lake sits at the bottom of the Monte Rosa Mountain and holds glacial water that has a unique deep blue hew. The quickest way to get to this lake is by starting at the village of Saint Jacques walking up through the hills passing through ‘Fiery’ a small mountain village.
