Tour Itinerary

An opportunity to discover the beauty of Sicily with a relaxing stay in Taormina, followed by visits to the baroque cities of the South East.

Day 1: Fly to Catania and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, meet your fellow travellers and tour guide for a welcome drink.

Day 2: Today, get to know the lovely seaside town of Taormina on a walking tour. You’ll get to see the Greco Roman amphitheatre with stunning views towards Mount Etna before enjoying an afternoon at leisure to explore the town at your own pace.

Day 3: Mount Etna is Europe's highest active volcano and you’ll ascend to 1,900 metres today. In the afternoon, you’ll see the typical Sicilian town of Savoca, which formed the backdrop to the film The Godfather.

Day 4: A day at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotel pool or perhaps the beach.

Day 5: Today we travel southwards to visit Syracuse and its beautiful baroque historical centre of Ortigia.

Day 6: Fans of the TV series, Inspector Montalbano will have noticed the gorgeous settings which include the little towns of Scicli and Ragusa. At Scicli, you’ll see the 'Police Station' before moving onto Ragusa, the setting for fictional Vigata. Even if you’re not a fan of the show, you’ll appreciate this stunning corner of Sicily that’s been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 7: Today, its a short drive to see the Castle of Donnafugata, home to the mafia boss in the Montalbano series, but also an interesting example of a Sicilian stately home from the 1800s. Then there’s a quick photo stop at the little seaside town of Punta Secca where Montalbano lives and swims, before enjoying a wine tasting and light lunch in a seaside location.

Day 8: Transfer to Catania airport for your return flight or pick up a hire car to extend your stay with us in Sicily.

South East Sicily

This part of the island is known both for its natural beauty, with lovely sandy beaches and nature reserves and also for its historical importance. The city of Syracuse under the ancient Greeks was the most important city in the western world. Its collection of monuments including Greek theatre and the island of Ortigia are impressive. The towns of the Val di Noto; Ragusa, Scicli, Modica and Noto together form a UNESCO World Heritage site, listed for its flamboyant baroque architecture. The towns will also be recognised by many as the setting for the Inspector Montalbano TV detective series shown recently on BBC4.
