Itinerary

Day 1: UK to Liguria

Fly into Pisa or Genoa and transfer to the Grand Hotel Villa Balbi in Sestri Levante, the stunning seaside on the Gulf of Tigullio. Unpack and settle in before exploring Sestri Levante and Lavagna.

Meals included: Dinner

Day 2: Cinque Terre

Spen today visiting Monterosso, one of the five beautiful villages that make up the Cinque Terre. As it’s renowned for its lemon trees, olives and grapes, it seems only fitting to head to the local wine shop. We’ve included a wine tasting here – we’d recommend trying the local DOC white wine. From there, use your Cinque Terre rail card to hop between the villages: Vernazza (famous for its fishing and olive oil), Corniglia (perched high on the rocks and surrounded by vineyards), Manarola (whose local wine ‘Sciacchetra’ dates back to the Roman times) and Riomaggiore (whose mountains hide the Via dell’Amore – a one kilometre long pedestrian street overlooking the sea, which historically allowed lovers from both regions to meet).

After exploring the five villages, you’re bound to have worked up an appetite, so we’ve organised dinner at a local restaurant where you can try the traditional Ligurian cuisine.

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3: Portofino

Today you'll travel to Santa Margherita Ligure and take a boat to Portofino. The humble fishing village has become a hub for the rich and famous with its boutique shops, old cobbled streets and colourful houses. Stoll through the town square and spot the super yachts in the harbour.  You'll have time to visit Al Faro di Portofino, a scenic lighthouse on the cliff tops. After a morning of walking and sightseeing, reward yourself with a cocktail at the Al Faro Bar just next door and revel in the true Portofino lifestyle – sipping an aperitivo and overlooking the gorgeous bay. You can also take a further optional excursion to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso which can only be reached on foot or by boat.

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4: Liguria to UK
