A Ski Safari to the Hidden Valley

Why is the ski safari from Selva to the Hidden Valley so special? Quite honestly, the age old expression that seeing is believing really does apply here but I’m not about to let that stop me. After all, it’s considered one of the most beautiful runs in the world! The trip starts with a short

Ski touring: Not just for the elite

Zermatt has long been a home to serious mountaineers and, until fairly recently, ski-touring was considered to be a necessary skill of only the hardiest; those wishing to break speed and endurance records, summit new peaks or to reach previously un-skied faces. It was a sport of guts, endurance, determination, and Lycra.   The famous

A brief introduction to the Ylläs Jazz Blues Festival

January in Äkäslompolo is, perhaps unexpectedly, the time to dance away those winter blues! It’s probably pretty unexpected to hear, but each year at the end of the month the sound of saxophones, trumpets, guitars, accordions and laughter warm up the frozen landscape as music and dance enthusiasts from all over Finland wake up and shake

Kaiserschmarrn translates as Emperors mess, not to be

Tiroler Gröstl

Austria has a fantastic culinary heritage with well known popular classics including Schnitzel, Goulash, Apfel Strudel and Sacher Torte at the top of menus throughout the country. However, one of my absolute favourite winter dishes has to be Tiroler Gröstl.   This hearty dish was traditionally devised to use up left overs and if anyone
