Thirty years ago, long before Strictly Come Dancing was even a twinkle Len Goodman’s eye, Philip Wylie formed Holiday and Dance following on from a social dance festival in the West Country. The festival continues to this day and the Dance Holiday People, as they have come to be known, have gone from strength to strength now coordinating and running approximately 40 holidays and short breaks each year! 2017 marks their second year heading to the stunning shores of Lake Bled with Inghams.
The premise of each Holiday and Dance experience is a great, picturesque resort alongside an attractive and sociable hotel with top quality professional dance coaches to lead workshops in styles such as Modern Ballroom, Latin American and Popular Social Sequence. Philip and Christine also leads short breaks in specialised Argentine Tango at intervals throughout the year.
So what’s special about this years Slovenian Holiday and Dance experience? Slovenia may have been overlooked as a holiday destination historically speaking, but in recent years it has seen a resurgence in appreciation for some of Europe’s most spectacular landscapes.
In the charming heart of Bled, Philip first hand picked the 4* Best Western Premier Hotel Lovec to host his social dance experience this July. Now in their second year partnering with Inghams, he’ll be returning in both July and September 2017! The boutique hotel embraces the history of the guesthouse built within the hotel’s grands over a hundred years ago. What’s more, the hotel’s ballroom will play host to the dance classes overlooking Lake Bohinj, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the Julian Alps. With fantastic access to the lake, plenty of lakeside and mountainous walking routes as well as access to gorges and Bled’s famous medieval castle, a trip to which is included in the package, there’s so much to see and do whether you’re roaming free or fine tuning your Quickstep with the backdrop of Lake Bled, Bled’s fairy-tale castle and the 17th century church romantically isolated in the heart of the lake.
The holiday and Dance team provide expert classes and workshops but maintain that the underlying premise of each and every holiday is a great atmosphere and ‘friendship through dance’ though every so often a little competition and the chance to watch the best dancers in the world adds to the fun!
To date, Holiday and Dance have welcomed all ages and abilities in to the dancing folds and many guests return year on year to socialise and improve.
